Had four extractions today, debris from my smoking days, the dentist gave me an instruction sheet as I left, it says no smoking for 48 hours, well that's not a problem also if the area becomes sore take painkillers it then says no alcohol, they can't have both ways. Dave

Dave Poor you x Has the dentist given you antibiotics, if so the type that dentists use can make you very ill if you mix with alcohol. When vaping try just to take really small puffs, I believe the act of drawing on a ciggy can be partly to blame for dislodging the blood clot and causing a 'dry socket' which you do not want, very painful!

No antibiotics Karma but I usually heal quite quickly it's a bit sore at the moment but prefer not to take painkillers if possible. Dave

Karma's right, it's the sucking that dislodges the clot, so be careful with the vape and don't drink with a straw. Talking of drinks, nothing fruity - I found out the hard way what citric acid in an open wound feels like! Might be wise to avoid sharp-tasting vapes too. My dentist told me to take a painkiller before the anaesthetic wears off, as it's easier to kill pain before it starts than after. (Mind you, my extractions were due to abscesses or impactions, so any after-pain was sweet relief compared to what I had had.)
