I'm in the middle of doing my self assessment tax return, and whilst going through my accounts online I noticed several direct debits to various companies (mainly insurance) that I cannot for the life of me remember what they're for. I'm so used to seeing them on my statement but am only now querying them. They are not large amounts but together come to about £40 per month. I've got a feeling one was for mobile phone insurance for a phone that I got rid of years ago. Anyway I've whistled off a few emails to find out. If I don't get any replies then I'll just cancel them, as they are obviously not life or house insurance or anything serious. Have you checked what you are paying for?

House and car only for me ... my house insurance covers me for loss or accidental damage to all my technology such as camera, camcorder, phone, laptop etc.

Too much, by a long way. First bit of good news though in years. Under £200 for my sports car this year.

If these are the result of the insurers favourite ploy, "auto renewal" I'd be looking at reclaiming the premiums and I'd definitely be cancelling any direct debits. I drive a company car so no cost there, I never pay for extended warranties on electrical stuff, (Sale of Goods Act is your friend) so that just leaves my house contents insurance which is at the minimum for an over 60 like me. It's a rented property so I don't care if it falls down as long as me and my cat get out in one piece.

I think life insurance and ecigs have a lot of talking to do with each other, the results will take many years to sort out. We need a life insurance separate area I think. This could save, or cost, members alot of money, hearing from others, which companies take into consideration vaping and which ignore it, could be very important. It could even make some members realise their cover, may not actually cover them. Chrissie could you take a look and see what you think. I know I need to look at my LI again, I'm still paying for a smoker, while I haven't smoked for 2 years, which is crazy on the face of it, but last time I looked at it, vaping wasn't even considered by the insurance companies, now it will be changing all the time.

If I come across a DD that I'm unsure about I just cancel it. You soon find out what it's for when the next payment can't be taken

Womble, maybe a pinned thread here in the Lounge or Members only ?

If I come across a DD that I'm unsure about I just cancel it. You soon find out what it's for when the next payment can't be taken The danger with just cancelling is if it is for life insurance and you wish it to carry on then you may have to start a new policy and be paying a lot more. It may also be some life savings plan so be careful if 'just' cancelling it. A quick phone call to the insurance company should find out what it is for.

I'm surprised at the lack of interest in the others, this could really save you alot of money, you should shop around for your life insurance to start with and now we might be bringing a database for you to find companies that will offer you good rates because you area vaper. Must be good sense all round?
