So this doesn't really apply to me since i'm not into MODS (yet) & have no need for batteries (at the moment) but i stumbled across this and thought it might be useful for some of you here, especially if you have some old laptop batteries lying around.. www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?246699-Tutorial-Laptop-Battery-Pack-18650-ExtractionI believe it's a flash light forum, but it's a pretty good tutorial & seems a good source of 18650 batteries since old laptop batteries what die could have a couple of good batteries still inside it. Safety first, since it involves batteries & could potentially be dangerous without care, I would recommend getting some advice first if you don't know what your doing I'm sure there are some experts lurking around this forum for help, sorry if it has already been posted.. had a look & couldn't see anything.

I think getting the pack opened safely would be the only difficult part .. especially if you resort to a dremmel ... might be a bit tricky that!

Nice quote from one of the threads----
"To be honest though, as satisfying as it is to recover the cells... I don't really trust them that much and think it is worth buying new ones so you know exactly where you stand. "
Be safe I

I get all my batteries this way. They are top class batteries ie Panasonic, sanyo and Toshiba I think better than some relabeled battery with quick/ sure fire in its name.

I think I'll be avoiding anything where the recommendation is to have a fireproof bucket handy

Me too, and I don't mess about with fire buckets and stuff. A pack can fail due to only one faulty battery, so you get 5 good ones. I now have 24 good quality 18650s extracted from supposedly dead laptop battery packs - which I get from the desktop/IT guys at work.

Very good find. Thanks for sharing Now going to call everyone I know to see if they have any dead laptop batteries I have a small pile of them! will have to buy a mod now.. If your looking for a few it could be a good idea to phone about local computer shops, they might have to pay to recycle dead laptop batteries.. so could grab your self a few for free.
