Only just got round to watching the video at the start of this thread...........Had a practice run & it works a treat....I bought some ready made res/non-res wires, thinking it would save time, but they keep coming apart when I coil them, so this is great............

Agree works a treat, I was a bit worried about clipping the spare wire off too close in case it would all fall apart, but as long as it has a nice sharp pull (I added the security of pressing the knot hard with a pair of tweezers) works well. Thanks Rom.

That knot didn't work well with my silver NR wire and .28 kanthal - try to pull the knot tight and the silver wire breaks. Silver and .16 work fine. As somebody wiser than me said, it helps if your NR and res wires are about as stiff as each other. I had some Kanthal NR (more like very low res, but that's another story) and that sort of worked, but the knot was a bit loose, so I put a silver crimp on it.
I'm wondering if you actually need no-res wire if you are using .28. Anyone tried an oddy-type without?

Ahhh... the humble Reef knot.
That video takes me back to my days as an apprentice, splicing 20 pair cables in inspection chambers waist deep in water.
This method of joining current carrying cables has been in use for about 100 years!
