simply put - arm the police and let them shoot the little sods with proper bullets - and ask questions later, if at all. Little barstewards want putting down.

Unfortunately it was police shooting dead Mark Duggan that started all this. He was shot twice and the third shot, from a police firearm, is what ended up in the police radio.
Duggan's gun wasn't discharged. Even if you take the view that he was illegally carrying a gun and deserved everything which came to him (which I don't, incidentally), where was the police consideration and care for the safety of the poor mini cab driver and motor and pedestrian commuters while this shoot out took place at 6.15 pm on a Thursday evening?

I'm over in SE1, surrounded by 4 "riots". Dare I say it, the media is blowing things out of all proportion as is facebook and twitter. Don't get me wrong, it's horrible what's happening but a lot of people are out to scaremonger too. Lets not forge that all those involved, from the looters to the police and including the government have agendas.

This has been God's gift to the media. Silly season, usually nothing to report, and wiped the phone and email hacking away too > Disgusted of Tottenham

I seriously think that all the riots could have been avoided if we had listened to one old proverb.
"spare the rod and spoil the child"
The kids nowadays are so spoilt and the parents are kind of scared to discipline them.
I am sure that what ever the reason kids would not have done this 10 - 15 years earlier. In case anything like this had started there would have no need of police. Their parents would have taken they by their ears and given a nice spanking.
And that is exactly what all these ferrel rats deserve

Have just been watching the news, and they showed footage of a young boy blood pouring from his face being helped up by someone whilst another yob ransacks his backpack !!!!!!!!!!!!!!, an horrified by it all. I too saw it and felt bad. But than I started thinking the other way. How did that boy get injured and how did he have some brand new wrapped stuff in his backpack. I serioudly think that he was injured taking part in the riot stealing from some poor hardworking souls shop. If that is the case than it servers him correct to be repaid by his own coin. If that is not the case I do feel bad for him and also for all those poor people who would be heart broken to see thier establishments vandalized. Cheers Shamreez

Whilst I'm appalled and think "it should be put a stop to at once" - heavily so where needed, I'm also concerned we understand why it happened - I don't mean that in a bleeding-heart liberal way, but if we dont work out whats wrong AND what we can do about it it will keep happening...

Prof as someone who fosters children from very underprivileged backgrounds, the only issue I can see is a severe lack of parenting. We didn't have a great deal when my son was young, quite often his clothes were bought from car boot sales or second hand shops, although his dad earned good money he had his own issues which meant he was always broke. I've been a single mum for many years to my own son, he was brought up with values, he had everything I could give him but knows damn well that I had to work hard to get those things for him. He now goes to University and works, he asks me for nothing, takes responsibility for his own actions (mum's always there to help if he gets in a mess) and I am very proud of him in every way. Even my foster children are totally and utterly disgusted by the riots!

I have to say that I didn't think that lad was part of the rioting mob and felt sorry for him. It's nice to see that people are rallying around to help. Shows just how much good there is in people and that we're not all marauding morons.

Well, I'm very pleased to hear on the news that the toe rag who robbed that Malaysian student is being charged today.
Hope he's given a fitting punishment.
