Will cotton wool work with 4 or 5 ordinary wraps?
I'll get some 0.3 in my next order. It is payday, after all!

It will, but the coil is not as strong or firm as a micro coil, so more care and patience is need to get the cotton wool through. If it does move to one side, you can always gently ease it back.

Why thank you kind sir. Another thing maybe worth mentioning is not to try and force too much cotton wool through. I was pretty guilty of this when I first started using it. What I then did was just make a couple of (Evod I think) coils and played with various amounts of CW until I was confident in getting the balance of the right amount to go through the coil fairly easily/fluff up well enough not to leak and wick well. It's all learning, wire and CW are cheap as chips really, so experimenting is worth doing.

Ok. I'll get some cotton wool from Sainsbury's (I like that I can buy something vaoping related in my weekly shop, it can come out f the housekeeping!) and order some more wire as well. I still have 3 packs of brand new coil heads, so I'm not desperate, I just wanted to make it work!
I'll also have a go with wrapping a little looser with the ekowool, and maybe try a sillica build as well.
I'll boil the wicks first to get rid of any impurities, as i haven't done that and although I don't think it's the problem, I think it's worth eliminating from my enquiries.
Huge thanks again - I'm not giving up, I want that kayfun clone to be stunning when it arrives - but if I can't build a wick and coil, it's not going to much use to me...

I'll get some 0.3 in my next order. It is payday, after all! If it's for evods/protanks or attys with only a small space to work with than i would say 0.25 is better than 0.3

12 wraps of .3 around a 1.5mm drill bit will fit nicely into an Evod/Protank head. There is a bit of room left as well. But I will use both .25 and .3. It all depends on how confident you are in coiling neatly really and taking a bit of time. Rush it, bodge it.

Are you using a pin or paperclip olong the wick when you wrap the coil? Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 I'm using the coil buddy, so its a 2mm drill bit and i pulled the coil tight on the bit. is this too thin? I'm using ekowool with i put over the drill bit, but don't double it. should I use a wider bit for these sort of coils, is the 2mm for microcoils? Or do i need more wicking material? The drill bit supplied with the "Coil Buddy" is 1.5mm not 2mm If you are using the Coil Buddy, you only want tightened wraps for micro coils. You should not be wrapping your wire tight if you are using a standard coil/wick set-up. The whole idea of the 1.5mm. drill bit, when wrapping a standard coil, is to give some stability and to give a bit of space for expansion of the wick when soaked. It happens to most of us but more often than not, dry hits are caused by wick strangulation.....its just a bit of a learning curve. The wire needs to be in contact with the wick and that is all. If your wire is tight enough to crush the wick, then it is to tight. The wire should just be laying on the surface of the wick`s circumference and no tighter.

Ok! So I'm 99% sure I'm wrapping too tightly, as I'm using the microcoil set-up on the coil buddy. I'll hunt in my tool box for a slightly bigger drill bit, I'm sure I must have one somewhere and if not there'll be something I can use in sure.
Thanks all - confidence restored, calmness returned, and ready to try again

ionian hope this helps in some way: 1: Get your coil and heat it up until red, takes seconds and it also takes the springyness away from the coil 2: Wrap it around your 2mm drill bit on the coil buddy nice and tight and pull all coils together so they are nice and snug next to each other, i do around 10 wraps with 0.25 Kanthal and the legs should end up pointing the same way as each other 3: Gently pull the coil off the drill bit and at the same time holding the legs of the wire place into a pair of tweezers ( preferably flat tweezers) 4: Once all held in place in the tweezers flame the coil until red hot and hold tight with the tweezers until cool 5: Place the 14 gauge Blunt Needle (this is what i use) into the coil 6: Place the 14 gauge Blunt Needle into the side slits of the evod/protank as far as it can go 7: Pull one wire down nice and tight and slide the rubber bung on and fix in place 8: Pull the other remaining wire down nice and tight and insert the metal center pin 9: Wiggle the hanging wires until they snap off to give you a clean snap 10: Place head into the evod/protank and place the base into a device to check resistance and give it around 3-4 seconds pulses to get rid of any impurities from the coil 11: Get some cotton wool, i use this and pull a bit off and roll a tube like shape of it, not too tight and not too loose. 12: Now pull the cotton though the coil, main thing is it should not be a struggle to pull though the coil, but at the same time it should not be too easy, snug is the key 13: Once done and you feel it looks right give the cotton a little fluff up at the ends and a little blow to blow away any loose bits of the cotton 14: Once all in place make sure after you have done the above that the coil is dead center of the head 14: Optional: Wet the wick with your chosen juice and fix it all together and fill up the tank, wait for 2-5 minutes to let all the juice soak in (can also do a few dry pulls to speed things up) 15: Vape away

Gonna do hopefully tomorrow a step by step guide with photos of a basic guide to doing a microcoil/cotton build on a basic kanger head.

Gonna do hopefully tomorrow a step by step guide with photos of a basic guide to doing a microcoil/cotton build on a basic kanger head. I reckon there should be a forum rule that you can't ask a question unless you have read through the relevant Super-Shiny guide on the subject first .... keep up the excellent work mate, we would be lost without your guides.
