Everything about the Vype that I've seen so far gives me the distinct impression that it's designed to turn smokers *away* from vaping: stupidly expensive for what they actually provide, short battery life, no flavour. The only thing they have going for them is the ready availability that tobacco industry marketing and distribution gives them. They will be bought by smokers curious to try ecigs - but not curious enough to research the alternatives - and those people will be mostly unimpressed. Job done.

No, no and No. The case does remind me of a lynx shower gel bottle.

It's a shame, this is what 95% of the population thinks a e-cigarette is.

You gotta be joking. What I say to that "e-cig" is that's if you dare call it an "e-cig"

As an experienced vaper with a lot of advanced vaping hardware and the ability to mix my own eliquid? ... of course not.
As a smoker who would dearly like to quit and has failed many times over using NRT and other methods such as going cold turkey? ... in a heartbeat.
I don't understand why everyone is so opposed to the cig-a-like since they were the introduction to the wonderful world of vaping for the vast majority of members on this forum ..... I know there are some who were fortunate enough to have had experienced vaping friends or family members who pointed them in the right direction from the start but the humble cig-a-like has been the means of quitting tobacco for many and deserves it's place alongside the other more advanced vaping hardware.

I don't think anyone in this thread is opposed to cig-alikes as a general category. Of course they have a role to play. I spent my first six months using a single solitary rechargeable Nicolite with pre-filled cartos. At the time, it was the only thing readily available, and at first I didn't even know what a "vaper" was. It was good enough, and available enough to get me away from smoking - but the Vype is poor, even compared to other cig-alikes. Maybe not the very worst, but IMO not nearly good enough, and I think deliberately so.

This ad plus the other 'sexy' one they've aired are very professionally done, and as a marketing exercise have achieved what they set out to do. Who can remember the ads for 'you're never alone with a Strand'... very persuasive, especially for younger viewers, it used to confirm my belief that I was 'cool'... even if that word hadn't been invented at the time. I'm just concerned, as others have said, that users will be put off if not realising there are better alternatives out there... also it will attract younger people who have never smoked anyway, and just give ammunition to our enemies.

This is all sounding a bit negative to me. Surely this is a good thing?
Okay, so it wont be the best device out there, but how many of us started with the best device? With the power of the big tobacco marketing machine this has the potential to reach MILLIONS of smokers. It is unlikely to convert millions of smokers, but say with this marketing machine, 10% of UK smokers try it out. That's 2 million extra people trying it out. Say it shows potential for 20% of them, who would like to investigate more.
Thats a potential extra 400,000 people that may come accross this site. An extra 400,000 people who might just go buy a vamo and a protank (other devices are available) and some nice e-liquid. Now say that original 400,000 people tell 1 friend. Then big tobacco MAY have introduced another 800,000 potential vapers as a result of big tobaccos marketing. That's almost 1 million lives saved in the UK alone. Now extrapolate that to Europe, then the world.
I encourage such moves by BT. It can only really be a good thing. Had enough of the negativity with regards to devices that probably started a high percentage of OUR journies toward getting here.

As someone who started out on cig-a-likes there are a good gateway for people to get off analogues
