Other than looks and fact that actually take 'proper' batteries what are advantages of mods?
Will mods take normal 510 clearomisors such as protank mini and iclear16?
Are all mods variable voltage?

Any sensible mod will take 510. They don't all take devices with ego connections such as protank minis. You can buy an adapter. There are normal mods and mechanical or 'mech' mods. Mech mods don't have any electronics, so aren't vv. The rest are vv, may also have a variable watt option. Have a look at this

Some Mods are just mechanical, no electronic circuitry . . . as a general rule they have a standard 510 connection. The likes of the SID/Vamo/MVP are Variable Voltage/Wattage and again as a general rule have an Ego connection, which means you can use anything on them without the need for a 510/Ego adapter. You've also the benefit of a built in ohms checker with these, which personally I find very useful. The battery run time on a Mod is better and with some of the heavier glass tanks there are now, there's a better balance. Those are some of the advantages for me boyofford . . . in addition to the shopping opportunities of course.

I have some mods. Just be aware that not everything fits everything. Neither a protank mini or iClear will fit a 510 (only) device. For example, my mini lavatube needs adapters (510-eGo) for just about all my small tanks. Mods, as mentioned, can come as simple mechanical, regulated or unregulated, or VV, or VV and VW. All have their good points.

I am still considering a kick but, ....ouch, the expense. More expensive than an entire SID. (I guess you've got to love your shiny mech tubes.....)

The big advantage of a mod over a 'normal' battery (ie ego type) is that the mod is just a battery tube, so you can take spare batteries out with you and replace them as they die. With a normal battery when the charge goes it's dead til you get home.

Cheaper alternatives are the Siegeli and Smoktech clones from Health Cabin and the one from Fasttech ... not sure how well they perform. ... I will always buy a cheaper mod or atty clone where it is available but I always try to go for the best when it comes to vaping electronics and batteries. ETA: Don't forget the kick can be used in whatever mod you are currently using ... you don't need one for each mod ... indeed you don't need one at all if you prefer unregulated voltage and subohm coils.

The great advantage over a mod is you can show a great big metal tube to your friends and make smoke come out of it. I don't know how anyone can fail to be impressed by this.
You can also get into endless arguments about how your Provari is better than everything else which I think is really good.
Oh yeah, and they take big batteries. And cost more. Mods are totally out there in their fabness.

Nice thing about mods is that you can get an adaptor off eBay and turn it into the world's most expensive torch.

Well that deciedes it, I don't need one, for now anyhow! Was starting to get itch for maybe getting something but seems I not much of a plus, other than looks maybe. And even with adaptors the protank mini and iclear16 will luck bit silly.
I've not understood the 510/ego conectiin thing it seems.. are the protank/iclear16 ego and not 510 connection then? So does my vision spinner have 510 and ego connection?

Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using proboards The Protank Mini/Iclear16 and Evod have a 510 Ego connection . . . so you need something that has those 2 sets of threads for them to make a connection, which the Spinner does. Imagine this adapter is the top of your battery, the lower outer central threads are the Ego connection, the inner ones at the top are 510. So you could still use something like a Vivi Nova which has a standard 510 connection, although you'd probably want a beauty ring to tidy up the Ego threads and make the appearance more seamless.

If you are enjoying your vaping now don't bother. As for the plus side, the vape is a thousand times better from a MOD.

How true Ginge . . . my vaping friend steadfastly refused to try anything other than an Ego battery for over two years, despite my best endeavours. This year I had another try and bought them a SID when HC had them on offer. They love it . . . and asked why I'd not shown them something like this sooner. Got them in the end though.
