This is my first post here.
My dad has mentioned interest in trying out e cigarettes. This is great news to all as he smokes like a chimney. He has asked me to help him but I'm struggling with all the information brands/refills/rechargeables/liquids etc.
He currently smokes about 40-50 cigarettes a day and has done for 30+years . The brand of cigarette is embassy filter. I can order the initial start up kit from the net but after that it would be useful if he could get parts in the shop (although I could order if needed).
It also has to be pretty simple to use and understand as he has no patience for new fangled things. I'll be at my parents house over christmas so I'll be able to help him.
Can anyone suggest what would be best based on the requirements?
TIA

Welcome. You will get lots of help soon, but let me say... You have done the right thing. On 40-50 a day there is almost no hope of him stopping smoking buying the products you see advertised on the TV, or are sold in supermarkets or petrol stations. Please try not to be tempted by them. Good luck.

Hello & welcome botero I used to smoke a similar amount & could never even cut down, never mind give them up all together. So to me the e-cig has been a life saver djs is right, if you had bought a ciggie lookalike, your dad would struggle with it & would have to be recharging the batteries ever couple of hours.

Welcome Botero and well done on supporting your Dad...make a nice Xmas present for him won't it? I smoked for 45 years and never thought I would ever give up. As your Dad smokes quite a bit, it probably would be wise to start him on 24mg nic juice. Quite a lot of newbies find that it makes them cough to begin with (myself included) in view of that I would go for a 50/50 pg,vg mix. It's also a good idea to have some menthol juice or a fruity menthol juice as well. He will probably say, like most of us did " I hate menthol cigs" Don't ask me why but most of us find it a good standby. Lemon menthol got me off the fags but whatever you choose for him I wish him luck.

From what I know you tend to cough when giving up cigs anyway?
Anyway being a total newb to the whole vaping thing and being a heavy smoker, 40 a day, I can say without doubt these things really hit the spot. It still feels a bit strange because you're not lighting up a ciggy but the actual craving is well and truly taken care of.
I'm just grateful a friend got me onto it and pointed me to this forum, full of super friendly and helpful people. Might be good if your dad could join up to for that extra support although I understand he might be reluctant to use fangled modern technology to communicate lol

Being a heavy smoker your dad will find it difficult to migrate to an e-cig kit and drop cigarettes straight away - just tell him to count the number of cigarettes he is replacing by using the kit. Also, there are very few eliquids that will exactly replicate his smoking experience in terms of flavour. Here are some other possibilities: EVAPEVaping is not like smoking. He will need to take long slow drags and hold in his mouth for a second or two, before inhaling into his lungs - this will improve the nicotine absorption and reduce the likelihood of a sore throat. Good luck with your mission.

Welcome botero You've certainly come to the right place for advice, no more helpful a bunch than one AAEC! That kit that Karma linked to really is excellent value and will give a great first experience compared to anything in a supermarket. I would honestly say there's no point investigating any other option at this stage, there's too much choice out there to confuse but the gear in that kit has been well tried and tested by most of us at some stage. I agree with Padiho in that 24mg juice would be a good starting point, it's strong so should help him stop getting itchy fingers, I'd get some tobacco juices to try but ask him to bear in mind that it's not going to taste exactly the same as a ciggy but it will certainly have the nicotine kick he'll want, and deffo try some fruity flavours too though they're actually really good. The hardest part is finding a few juices that he'll be happy with day after day, but that's also the best bit because there's so much choice. Being prepared to experiment is the key. One last thing, that kit is great as well because you really do need two of everything, and spare heads because they last about a week then need replacing, nothing worse than a flat battery or a worn out atomiser head to put the mockers on it. Keep the heads though because they can be rebuilt, but that's for later. Good luck to your ald fella!

Hi botero and Again, I'd echo the advice already given. The key is for your Dad to have "spares for his spares" (a bit of a mantra round these parts). The batteries can take a few hours to charge, and they should never be left charging unattended. So whatever kit you do buy for him, make sure there are at least 2 batteries. I don't know your Dad's circumstances, but the batteries in that kit would not last anything close to a full day for me and I was a 20 a day girl, so if you do get him that kit, I'd be tempted to get him an additional battery or 2. I never leave the house without at least 2 spare batteries with me. The only thing that would make me turn to the stinkies now is not being able to vape - even then, smoking would be a very poor substitute for me now. It could well take him time to get off the stinkies completely, but as has already been said, celebrate the ciggies he doesn't smoke... it's all about baby steps Wishing your Dad the best of luck! and a very merry (smoke reduced) Christmas to you and your family

Hi botero and welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place for great advice and loads of support. I'm new to vaping too and they've saved me loads of headaches and wrong turns along the way. If your Dad isn't internet able, he'll need your help along the way. Most things he'll need are found online and at much better prices. All the best of luck to him and well done for taking an interest in helping him.
