I watched Compliance today en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compliance_(film)I knew it was going to be uncomfortable viewing and it was, It was uncomfortable because it was tragic and unbelievable but at the same time absolutely true. This has actually happened in the states 70 times and this film mirrors and incident in a Maccy Ds in Kentucky. The thing that made me uncomfortable wasn't so much where I would draw the line, I'd have drawn the line at being complicit in sexual abuse or assault (including strip searches.) But it was uncomfortable watching utterly brilliant actors show how someone who would be considered a normal person can be pushed into doing something that they know is wrong for what they think is the right reasons and how easily people can be manipulated and justify it to themselves, they are after all just following orders. It was also very uncomfortable that it's hard afterwards to blame the people involved entirely and to think of them as accessories to sexual assault and rape because they weren't being willing criminals but were being duped into it. Everything about this movie screamed wrong but I could still see how it would be possible to degenerate into a horrific series of acts by people who are ordinary people. It's well worth a watch if you like films that make you think and feel long after the movie have finished and make you question human nature. It's not pornographic although it has a fair amount of nudity because as you are viewing the horrible abuse of someone there's nothing titillating about it but it does make you think. Well that was a nice Christmas movie lol Just thought I'd share with people if you fancy a very deep and harrowing movie that will make you think long and hard about authority and moral boundaries.

A very disturbing story made into a compelling movie. I think in real life certain of the scenarios went even further. If you're interested in this aspect of human behaviour there were some interesting psychological experiments done in the 60s such as the infamous Stanford prison experiment. I guess when we hear about situations like these we wonder how we would act in similar circumstances.

Seen both, Compliance and The Experiment, out of the two Compliance is very shocking.

Great I am glad you mentioned this. I have it to watch on my recordings as it was on film4 the other day. I like thought provoking films.

Seen compliance, most people I think would not do what occurred there.

Seen compliance, most people I think would not do what occurred there. I tell myself that easily but you do have to wonder at what point you would draw the line if it wasn't as abhorrent as sexual assault. Derren Brown does a similar sort of thing and none of those would ever do anything like that until they are programmed to or swept up in mob mentality. The real question is what should the law do with the people involved, are they as guilty as the caller? Sent from my GT-N7100 using proboards

I never watch films that I think might be disturbing kibbster so haven't seen it. Watching the news is bad enough. Have just watched 'It's A Wonderful Life' again this afternoon for the umpteenth time. I know... I'm a wimp!

You're joking, that's a classic, I watched it too even though I like violence and action in films. When I say violence I mean the "I'll be back" kind lol.

Might give it a watch.
I prefer films that I don't have to think much about. Bit of sci fi etc.
One film that did make me think was Crash. First time I watched it It really made me think. For hours after. People take so little notice of how their actions effect other people. Crash makes you realise that your actions have repercussions not just for yourself and those directly around you but for people you don't even know.

Compliance is an ok film, no blockbuster that's for sure, happened in the states, well I'm not saying it wouldn't happen here but if it did or has I'm willing to bet not as often, and that may or may not be a good thing, cos they are a lot more law abiding than we are and so will comply more with what they are told, were not talking about hillbilly's here, and i think we on the whole would want more assurance, proof that it was the right thing to do?
