I'm quite firm now, I do lend out a couple of spinners (got from babs for this reason) I do 'the talk' a physical tutorial, how to fill, attach, charge, use settings etc. I go so far as bookmark online links and tutorials too! If they come back - or I visit on allotted agreed date/time and they say, they enjoyed vaping...in between smoking, I know its been slightly pointless and take back my stuff, remind them of sites to buy basic gear --- and leave swift! If they vaped like mad, barely touched a ciggie, I give them links, watch them pay - re lend gear until their newly ordered stuff arrives and support them 100% I will give them eliquids ( all the spares I have which are reputable but I really went right off! hehe) Might do a little tasting session with my drip tips and jealously guarded favourite flavours - THEN show them where they can buy from if they love

I've handed out stuff to help get newbies on their way, it totally hasn't worked. It's been unappreciated and nobody has made an effort to return anything so as I could pass it on to others Same here. I have given 4 people Riva batteries, wall chargers , leads and 10 mil juice and a clearo each. Not one of them has ever given me any feedback on why they couldn't get on with it...none have returned the equipment, infact...none have mentioned anything!!! On the other hand, 3 other friends have had a toke on mine and subsequently bought their own and are now full time vapers. Its a strange world

I'd just charge them money. They probably wouldn't mind. "It's my spare, but I'll sell it to you if you want"..."Juice costs about £5 for 20ml, I'll make you up 20ml if you like" or whatever. I only give away stuff I don't want.

Thanks all for your replies.
I have printed out/sent emails of, lists of websites where they can get e-cigs and e-juices. I have taken my kit to their houses and shown them the how of it all and I have let them try various flavours and MODs. I have given them the AAE-C address and told them what pages to read to get a fair cross sectioned view of what is available and all the information they need.
Indeed if they read all the guff I sent them, they will, by the time they come to buy a kit, have a far better understanding of vaping than I had when I first started.
Which in a way makes me even more inclined to think that if they will not spend the money to start themselves, then I would be wasting my time and my equipment giving it to people who are not prepared to help themselves.

I've been fortunate, I've been given a lot of stuff for free. Where I receive something for free and it's not for me I'll generally either give it away or in some cases charge postage. This has been the same for people online and people IRL.
If I get given an ego kit for example or I find a very cheap offer I'll get it/buy it and store it away somewhere. I know they work, but I've moved on and have enough kit that I use not to have to/want to use them myself, so they get given away.
If however it's stuff I've bought for my own consumption/use then it costs them what I've paid, and only if it's surplus at that point. My stuff, is mine, and I've worked hard to buy the stuff I've got.
I'm more than happy to point people in the direction of the right stuff to buy if they want more than I am willing to give. There has to be a line somewhere.

I only give stuff to people who really need it or are worse off than me. (That has included ecigs and much more besides) If one of the "I'm a vaper, My Husband/Wife and I "smoke" Nicolites and we're down to only 10 cigarettes a day now, we spend £40 on the refills and save lots of money, not that we need to".... asked to borrow or use my stuff, the answer would not be nice. Never a borrower or a lender be. If someone needs something, I give it to them. If they want to borrow it, I class it as borrowed, permanently.

Someone once said to me "never lend what you can't afford to give away" and it's something I've stood by ever since. I believe in paying it forward, but when people aren't prepared to step up and take some responsibility, then they're on their own I'm afraid.

I have quite a few ego style batteries that i have kept back with about 10 new ce4's left and i just fill them and pass them over for them to try reminding them if they get on with it there are sites and a few local b&m stores to buy a proper kit. I never ask for them back but always say if it doesn't work for them pass it on to someone else who wants to give it a go, if it does make sure you get a backup for the one that is on charge
I remember the time i quit and thought £30 for a simple 510 was a lot of dosh if it wasnt going to do it for me, hell even £10.00 would have been a waste if i didn't quit (thankfully I did some two years ago)

Perhaps in 2014 when I start running out of places to keep my spares, I will give some away to prospective vaper newbies. And you never know, in a few years time we will start seeing OAP Vapers getting rid of MODs on Freegle!!!

I've only given stuff to family n friends to encourage them to give vaping a go, mostly been new stuff though as presents.
My brother is a cheeky one. Had one toot on ny spinner with some key lime in a month ago and loved it so as it was Christmas I bought him a mini protank kit and gave him odds n ends of juice. He is moaning didn't get him a spinner now! When I know he can more than afford to get his own, and hell he needs a backup anyhow! He ain't really versed in internet usage so will take him greyhaze shop.
Would like to give mate something as he is skint and buying cigs ain't helping, but ain't got out spare. Maybe find him cheap setup and just point him too it, initial out lay of vaping seems high until you realise what your spending on cigs daily!

And that's the problem, buying cigs you know they're going to ' work ' for you, an ecig is speculatory . . . it's convincing people to take the leap of faith and make the commitment/investment. You can always tell them that a few years back, a humble DSE901 (mini ecig ) cost around £55 for 2 small batteries and 2 901 atomisers, which if you were lucky lasted a week. It's never been more reasonable to give esmoking a try.

I second that, cheap, good quality starter sets are everywhere. I only used my original ego's for 3 weeks. I now lend them to friends to convert them, but I want them back to try to educate the next one on the list. However everyone tries to hang onto them. I've drawn the line at one month, if they are still vaping after a month they can get their own kit.

I completely agree with everyone. lobeydosser make it a new years resolution to to ask for all the kit you have lent back. Plus start charging them for the e-liquid you make
