Vamo V5

Hi -- Ive been using my Vamo V5 and loving it but alas it has decided to start and play up -- sometimes it will fire and I can use it for maybe 30 mins other times it just wont fire at all -- leave it a day or 2 and will fire again then back to not firing ---grrrrrrrrrrrrrr ---any ideas anyone ??????

I don't have a Vamo but do you keep the contacts clean on both the Vamo and your batteries?

This sort of happened to mine when in 18650 mode - it worked perfectly in 18350 mode so I deduced it couldn't be anything to do with the electronics or the ego/510 doodah. My solution was to stretch the spring on the bottom cap a bit and hey presto it hasn't missed a beat since.

I have a VAMO V3 and I have a similar problem using "one" of my batteries but if I unscrew it a bit it works fine, as if the battery is pushed in too far, the other battery works fine (18650 batteries). I don't know if this will sort yours but it works for me.

Thanks for the reply's --I've just noticed that the screen seems to have what looks like condensation on the inside -- could this be possible ???

Sounds like you might have had juice leak into the guts, or perhaps just a humidity relared problem. I would ask raid2506 for his advice, I have tagged him here, so keep an eye on this post.

Hi scargill, lets see if we can't get this sorted.

Please excuse me if anything sounds patronising or you have already tried it, just trying to get all the info.

A couple of obvious things to start, you can't use protected batteries, please check yours is unprotected.
Minimum coil resistance is 1.2 Ohms, please verify yours is above this.

Are you using flat or button top batteries? The contact on flat top batts can become concave with use and fail to connect properly.
Have you tried a different battery?
Have you tried it in 18350 mode?
Have your tried different atty/head/coils?
When you look up inside the battery tube is the positive contact clean and free of swarf etc?
Does the spring in the bottom cap have a full range of movement?
Does it get used in humid environments, outdoors, bathroom, kitchen, etc?

Thanx for the reply - yeah tried and done all of your suggestions raid -- except yes the Vamo has been in a humid environment - I had it on holiday in Tenerife recently -(took the wife with me aswell by the way) but it seemed to be working when I got back(28.12.13)

Hi scargill Are you aware of any leaks in the 510 connector of the Vamo from leaky atties? If you suspect you have had a leak take the battery and battery cap off and leave the Vamo in an airing cupboard or somewhere warm for a few days and try again. The condensation you speak of could be juice and if you can dry it out, it may work okay again. Unfortunately, it may not either. Once it has got onto the circuit board it can lead to resistance paths on the board which affect the electronics. Worth a try . Even if you cannot spot or remember any leaks, a few days in the airing cupboard will do it no harm and may fix the problem.

scargill, obviously taking your wife with you has upset your Vamo, I hope you learned your lesson

Most likely culprits at the moment sound like, moisture in the switch, bad internal connection somewhere or manufacturing fault.

If it doesn't dry out as robby suggested you may have a warranty claim?

Failing that I'm happy to take a look at for you at no charge, I just ask that you cover the return postage.

There ain`t much that will stop a Vamo, but the top cap can be poor as far as leaks goes. It`s about time they came up with something a bit more sophisticated and sealed, maybe some sort of spring loaded connector. It would solve numerous probs on mods from leaky atties and dodgy centre pin connections , but I agree with raid2506, you should have left her at home

Yes, that would work, or anywhere warm, never tried that before Jane but it makes sense

It's worth a try, or maybe some silica gel in you have it.

The problem with moisture in these is there's very little airflow thorough the body.
Removing the battery tubes can help as can pulling out the centre pin. Ideally you would pull the top cap.

Those condensation traps that you use on window sills would probably work as well, but not really worth the expense.
