As usual I've left it to the last minute to complete my tax 'self assesment' return. Had an email this morning from my accountant telling me to get my ass into gear. Promised him I'd do it this week. Been out most of the day since, come back and my laptop is playing 'silly buggers'... where my info is stored. Have therefore booted up my desktop for the first time in months, which has played up in the past, and have spent the last couple of hours watching the Norton & Windows doing the updates I've missed... and every little hiccup had me panicking. Also the car, even after I've been praising it, is making funny noises. Now, the central heating boiler is dropping pressure. How many backups do you need to lead a stress free life!

I now realise how trivial my problems are, but it's so nice to express them in this forum, safely.

Poor Raff and Andy. I don't believe in old wives tales so.... Go to bed tonight, sleep well and start afresh in the morning. Deal with the problems one at a time in order of priority.

I wanted to post about my ills, but decided against it. Just think of the unfortunates who have it worse and plod on, I guess.
Sidenote:EGR=exhaust gas recirculation valve, the bane of many a car on the roads following stringent pollution controls. Can be removed and cleaned in most cars to good effect. Just give it 12volt (usually the extreme end contacts) and the selenoid will open enabling you to clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner.

Sorry to hear of your bad start to 2014 Raffles and andy01424Mine has been full of annoying bad luck, nothing too major thank god until today that is. 1 broken tablet, 1 playing up tablet almost unuseable at times, 1 dead phone (now sent back hopefully for repair, but forgot to add contact details in so will delay the repair), daughter almost kicked out of college due to illness (now thankfully sorted and second chance given along with bus pass, meal ticket and extension to coursework), end of year accounts make grim reading, accountants advice 'get a job', found out son has not been selected to go to World Scout Jamboree in 2015 via Facebook instead of privately through snail mail or email. Final one very poorly guinea pig, vets tonight, could be pts and he is our favourite piggie, pure white and very fluffy. However tomorrow is a new day, onwards and upwards as they say.

Wish I hadn't posted that last night, too much of the amber nectar and feeling sorry for myself. I think the laptop is having a problem with 'Dropbox', maybe wrong... the tax man can go ??? (but I'll probably have to pay the fine!)... and the car was getting worse today so it's going into the doctors tomorrow. Compared to zeldamum I've nothing to bother me, and so many others on here that have got serious health issues. Forgive me for the self-pity. A couple of hours ago had a visit from a neighbour asking if I could take him to the shops as his partner is in hospital with heart problems, and I didn't know anything about it. A good 'reality check' makes you realise what you've got, and what so many others haven't. I'm therefore giving myself several lashes tonight... I think her name is 'Zelda'

Just because you don't perceive your problems as bad or horrendous as some others doesn't mean you don't have the right to offload it or talk about it to friends. What sort of world would we be living in if none us gave other people their time or a listening ear?

Made me think how many 'old' people are being 'ripped off' day in and day out. I'm beginning to wonder where the 'exit' door is.
