Update:

Well the coating/lacquer for the aluminum case was not to my liking as it was not tough enough so i have decided to use silver metal alloy spray as it is used on car rims and is a lot tougher.

Primed the box, sanded it down to a fine finish and coated with silver metal alloy spray, just leaving it to dry for 24hrs, also done the USB hole on the cover so it's all good to go with fittings tomorrow.

Hard part is now done

Well the box mod was built today and fired up ok but there was a problem, the OLED display was kaput, nothing showing so i had a look and found the ribbon wire has came loose from the board

Replacement is on it's way so no final build until Tuesday, gotta say the this is one sexy mod

The DNA has been the weak point in both of your builds.

Guess you have to treat them really carefully.

I'm still thinking of building but couldn't afford to kill the board so am aiming at a simpler device.


Looking so good though making me want to hurry up and get building instead of worrying about the mistakes I could make

Have to say this build is a nightmare, in fact nightmare is a understatement due to the size of it and what you have to work with, this is very very testing for me atm.

But i am thinking of putting some epoxy on the connections of the ribbon wire on the board to strengthen the connection (i am waiting on confirmation to see if this is ok).

Think my next build will be something bigger as this small mod is way to stressful

Forgot to add, even though Evolve know about the weakness problem with the ribbon wire on the DNA board they have made the new DNA30 with the same weakness

I saw Garry Dibley putting glue somewhere on a DNA20 so I think as long as you are careful and just reinforce the connection it can work.

I'm thinking of making a VV box mod out of wood, but want to have the atty as part of the box.  So a billet box ish kind of thing.  Got no experience making boxes or wiring or soldering so it's going to be a challenge.

But reading all your threads overcoming those challenges is one of the most rewarding parts of mod making.

Pezz if and when you do decide to make a mod i just got this email from Evolv regarding making the flat ribbon cable more secure:

Hi Jason,

You may use electronics grade RTV or hot glue, do not use regular RTV as it will eat the copper.

The flex cable on the 20 and 30 can be creased up to 5 times this may helpful in placement.

Hi there Super Shinys been looking at a lot of DNA 20/30 builds of late for inspiration
for my own build and sourcing parts and I noticed on post #48 you have a plastic cover type shield thingy
over all the board and buttons,can I ask was that made by you or did you have it made.
Any pics of the finished mod yet ,would love to see it finished
