blakeys turn for disaster

Saturday morning I awoke to find that the water had been turned off due to a problem in the area, I was going out for the day anyway so I thought no problem, i'll have a shower round at the other halfs before we go. Before leaving my house I checked to make sure all the taps were off and nothing was left on that shouldn't be on and away I went. There were the usual notices in the lifts saying that water will be restored asap and please make sure you turn off your taps. Had a really nice day down in Herne bay visiting the other halfs daughter and came back home happy and content but looking forward to my bed. Opened the front door and noticed that the windows were all steamed up? Took a step inside and splash! First thought was that the aquarium had burst so I went in expecting to see fish and the like flapping on the floor but the fish were fine, it turns out that the numpty in the flat above had left his bath tap on and the plug in then buggered off out!!! The housing association had to gain forced entry to his flat and turn it all off. Spent two days so far trying to get dry in here but fighting a losing battle cos water is still dripping down even now. Turfed out my home insurance and it expired in December, I'd forgotten all about it
So I won't be about too much for a while whilst I'm trying to get this place livable again.

Oh blakey, What a catastrophe to have to come home to, you must be gutted, all the damage that can be done with water, and on top of that no insurance!

I am so sorry, it is the one thing I dread, flooding in my home. Hope you get the help need from your H.A. and the numpty upstairs puts his hand in his pocket to help you.
You will be missed.

Yeah, i'll be looking into that but he's disappeared for now. Probably got somewhere warm and dry to stay
I could live with it if a pipe had burst or similar but I have always had a problem dealing with irresponsible stupidity

Good grief blakey! Apart from the obvious floor and wall damage, was there furniture damage as well?

What a nightmare. I've had a similar situation with the people above me, but they were in bed, mind you they did refuse to turn the water off as they couldn't be bothered emptying all their crap out of the cupboard where the stop tap is, so my ceiling collapsed before the plumber I rang got himself up and here.
Luckily though been in at the time, I was able to contain it to just the bathroom, so no claims needed as its all tiled.

Awwww no blakey that's horrendous! It's always worse when it's someone else's fault. One of the worse things to deal with is getting rid of the smell of damp when the water has gone. Fingers crossed you get it sorted ASAP.

Hall carpet + living room carpet + bathroom, kitchen + living room walls. Furniture intact, sanity failing and patience almost gone
Housing people won't send a survey team till march 5th. They said that they can't assess till its all dried out
Appointment with whomever is in charge on Friday

In all seriousnes, i feel for you, man. Our ceiling came through several years back, because the idiots upstairs wouldn't get a leak fixed. Hope i never have to live in an apartment/flat ever again.

Sue the arse off the Muppet upstairs (& the housing association?) - who leaves the plug in, in an empty bath
