i mixed up 200ml tonight and when mixing i noticed my nic was a very light juice colour. is this right as i thought it was clear. it is still in its original bottle, and stored in the dark.

I had 500ml of nic base and it went dark in color which was due to heat from the summer, i now freeze all my large nic base and keep 250ml in the fridge......not had a problem since.
p.s Nicotine does not like heat in any form.

Just gets more viscous, still pours easier than undiluted VG

thanks barry, i still havent got around to amber bottling the nic but ive used maybe 30% of it so i may just put it in the freezer after taking another 200ml out and bottling that in 50ml bottles. i know it degrades a bit but this will be gone in a years time. i will be stocking up on a couple more litres, this i will bottle properly.

Can you expand on your statement that 'nicotine does not like heat in any form,' Shiny? If its merely a question of colour change and viscocity, then there shouldn't be much of a problem, however, you seem to allude to something more, or at least that's what I'm reading into it. Just had a look at a spec sheet on nicotine and there doesn't seem to be much of a problem of storing it at the temperatures we would expect in the UK. However, I'm going a step further and thinking of nicotine heating up for instance in an ultrasonic bath when mixing, the water tends to get hot after about an hour and by hot I mean around the temperature of hot water from the tap, which as an amateur without scientific knowledge still looks okay to me, well away from any problems of decomposition. Also another factor that I'm thinking of at present are ceramic donuts that heat up to very high temperatures. Do you think there may be a health hazard connected with vaping a nicotine solution at very high temperatures. On Poo's video, the temperature went of the scale, when measuring the heat of the ceramic.

The colour does tend to differ from different vendors......It's quite normal though.

I don't think I've bought nic base from the same vendor twice, and they all seem to have a slightly different colour. Some are to all intents and purposes clear, whereas others arrive with a pink hue and continue to darken, although mine is kept in a sealed box under my bed, cool and dark. I've not noticed any appreciable difference in taste or effect, but then I'm not the most scientific vaper - if it stops me wanting a fag, then I'm happy!

Heat kills/degrades nicotine PipeBomb Jon . . . so if you allow any eliquid to get hot for a length of time then your nicotine content will be weakened. Short cycles in a ultra sonic cleaner should be ok, though if you intend trying to speed up the infusing process by using one, personally I wouldn't bother. There's no substitute for some patience and a little time . . . and keeping your UC for cleaning stuff. I've never bought nic base that was clear either, they've all been a pale straw colour which has darkened over time.
