Dawlish is just down the road from me and from what I have heard on the local news is the line will be open again by Easter. Which is pretty bloody amazing. Most of us didn't even think they would have started the work by Easter let alone finish it.

Glad they are opening it a had of time. Too many holiday makers with cars clog up the narrow lanes.

Is this good news? I was seriously considering applying to move the entire land mass west of the affected areas by another 25 feet further west. Then, declare independence from the rest of the UK and the EU, and declare a Vape safe new country. --- Last time I went to Dawlish, I'm fairly sure I swum there. (swum, swimmed?)

It is indeed good news for the SW economy Got to admit that when I first saw the pics of the damage, I thought it would take for ever to repair.

Network Rail are top notch with things like that. A shame their hard work is let down by ejits like Worst Late Western trying to run the trains. Dawlish obviously isn't FGW's fault, but it really doesn't excuse the crap service they provide when the lines are operational

Mate of mine's son is an engine driver on the HSTs from Penzance to Plymouth. The ironic thing is that locos due for service which can't be undertaken at Laira in Plymouth are being transported by low loader to Swindon up the motorway. I'm also getting used to seeing the same rolling stock everyday at Redruth station as I wait in the car park for my daughter to get back by bus from Truro each evening. Perhaps we'll be due some new stock after the line is re-opened . . . oh look, there goes another flying pig!
