You want to find something that fits the slots in the coil head for the protank, you know at each side where the wick sits? Then you can put the coil back on after squeezing and place the tool in the slots with the coil on it, get the legs through and sorted out then remove the tool and stick your wick in.
Also when cutting the legs after fitting the rubber grommet and metal bung make sure there's no little bits of wire sticking out to far as that will short off the sides of the base the coil head screws into. And yes this did happen to me which is how I found out lol.

Use the 14 gauge needle to wind the coil, they really are that small as standard, any bigger will probably hit off the sides and short out. You can usually do like 10-12 winds on one of them but you can vary it to suit your wire i.e. if the coil is to low an ohms make the coil with more coils, to high wind less.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble clivealive1.
Generally does it matter what mm the jewellers screwdriver I use in terms of the resistance, 2mm makes the coils wide, so could I wrap the coils around a 1mm screwdriver?
Also, the mesh company sent me some 0.15 Kanthal as a freebie, do you use this in the same way as 0.25 kanthal, same number of wraps etc, or is it used differently?

...sorry posted but didn't see enjay's post about the 14G needle, which kind of answers the question about the mm of the screwdriver

You'll need nearly twice as many coils round a 1mm @nimh297, and say 6 turns if you were using 10 (0.15 divided by 0.25 times 10). So you could do both, but you are losing the benefit of a microcoil which is to get a larger area of wire heating up the juice.
