Hello & welcome CaptainChaos You can't really go wrong with the Evod kit & you can always buy a variable voltage battery at a later date - it will be compatible I agree. Getting on for 20 months ago, I was struggling to quit smoking using JacVapour look-a-likes. Chrissie recommended me a basic (but good) kit similar (at the time) to the evod kit. It worked! If you make sensible choices, the hardware you might be left with if/when you upgrade is never a wasted purchase. I gave away a £40 (in 2012) kit to somebody yesterday for them to try vaping. I had used it, I had kept it as back-ups.

Ok, so it seems that I'll be getting the EVOD Starter Kit from myepack.
What else do I NEED to get so that I am covered for a few weeks?
Just a simple list (batteries, coils, flavours etc etc).
Then I can just dive in (as has been mentioned) and try to stop the dreaded real ciggies.
Once I DO 'go for it', please don't take the p*ss when I list what I bought hahahahahaha

Once I DO 'go for it', please don't take the p*ss when I list what I bought hahahahahaha You'll have 2 batteries, 2 clearomisers (evods), a charger and some replacement heads. If you can afford it, order a 5-pack of 1.8ohm heads as well... should give you more oomph as you get used to vaping. The choice of e-liquid is going to be tough. I only ever vape the "tobacco" flavours from Dekang. Some of them are dodgy too. Have a look here www.ltecigs.larsentilbrook.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=61You'll have to pay P&P, but the liquids are well-priced. If you buy 4 bottles at £2.40 say, that will cover the P&P compared to the more expensive liquid vendors who sell at £4.99 and post for less than LT.

Cheers djs - I guess (to start with), I'll want the most 'realistic' tobacco alternative - I currently smoke Rothmans blue normal strength (thet cheapest around here) ..... 10mg tar, 0.9mg nicotine, 10mg carbon monoxide

What I would say is that "tobacco" and "king of tobacco" are not great in tanks/clearomisers. They are quite good in a basic e-cig. "Triple 5" might be worth a try. It's not tobacco exactly, but smokey with a bit of nutty too. You might hate it, but of all the Dekang flavours I have, that is the one I use to introduce to new vapers. I like the Veronica Gold, but it's spicy/herby in flavour. It's a minefield recommending liquid. However, you have to "push off" on your journey somewhere. I bought lots of liquids I never liked that much. I have vaped nearly all of them now... usually mixed in with something else along the way. I often found "Cigar" flavours quite acceptable. I doubt you'll hit the jackpot straight off, but as long as it's not wasted..

It seems that the Evod Starter Kit seems to be a good way to start so I'll look into that one. I don't want to get something like the MVP2 until I am REALLY used to the difference in vaping - that would be like being 18, passing my driving test & buying a Lamborghini a day later - yes, very nice, but it'll end in tears hahahaha A few more questions for you who know: Do batteries run out of charge when they're not used? What do coils actually do? Do I need loads of them? Some people say "get the variable voltage" but others say "don't get that until you are familiar with vaping". What do you think? Can I charge the ecig using the USB plugged into a mobile phone wall plug? Clearomizers/Cartomizers - what's the difference? I do have loads more questions, but I'll only start with the above for now as I don't want my brain to explode just yet! Cheers Ian I get where you are coming from with the car analogy, but I'd have to disagree with it a little. For me anything that looks like a cig would be a banger you'd struggle to get through its MOT, the EVOD kit would be something like a new Ford and the MVP would be a Lexus rather than something as fast/sporty as a Lambo. It will get you from A to B as well as the Ford would, but you'll have a much nicer time using it. That said, my backup gear is very similar to the EVOD kit, I quite like EVOD clearos and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it, but if someone offered me a Lexus for a similar price to a Ford, I wouldn't drive the Ford. Both devices are as simple to use as filling a clearo, screwing it on and pressing a button and both charge in similar ways, but you'll need to keep a closer eye on the EVODs while they charge and being able to charge my phone from my MVP is really handy. One final point, if you decide that vaping isn't for you, which I'm sure you won't, you will be able to sell the MVP for a much greater price than you'd get for the EVOD kit, post in the classified section here and someone will take if off your hands, I might even be tempted as I'm struggling not to buy a second one! I lasted less than two weeks with little eGo/EVOD batteries before deciding that the MVP was for me and as good as it is to have backups, I really wish I had bought the MVP first. I'll shut up now. Just my opinion and I'm sure our tastes will differ, but on tobacco liquids, I use the Dekang Tobacco quite often during the day. I find it pleasant but a little mild. Being mild there's probably not too much to dislike about it so might be a place to start. You'll get the nicotine hit which at least for me was the big thing to keep me going. I prefer the VA Blend in the evening especially if I'm having a drink. It seems to have a bit more to it. I tried but didn't like the BH Son and especially the SK LT so I mixed a little menthol in with them and despite never having smoked a menthol cig in my life, I quite liked it. I quite enjoy menthol on it's own sometimes now and I'd never have thought that a month ago. I haven't had anything remotely like my old tobacco since I started and it really hasn't been an issue.
Just a thought about nicotine strength, since I 'upgraded' to evods, I haven't been able to use 24mg. It's too much for me. I think somebody already mentioned you might need to try different strengths.
As djs says, it's a bit of a minefield but you'll need something to get you through the first few weeks and you could add some liquids and get the free postage from Myepack. It's not much, but the best part of a bottle for free.
Chris

Oh and I forgot to say that www.smokerainbow.com/tobacco/ will probably be of help to you. They sell little 1ml samples of liquid which will save you from buying 10ml bottles that you might not like.

Thank you everyone.
I have never been on a site where someone turns up, asks a few questions and gets a HUGE amount of support, advice & recommendations.
Brilliant, thank you.

Really this is one of the friendliest forums you will ever join. No question is too silly or stupid. We've all been there. I am still there when I have a crazy lowering of nic or like have broken an e-cig in 2 days flat (or less) that cost me £40 or even more LOL Welcome

What else will I need to get spares of so I never run out of anything ever ever ? lol All 3 kit are ok , for me nr 3 sound better..up to you .. now : About e-juice : try few different flavors but buy small bottles first . About hardware : much more difficult to learn how to use your mobile phone than this hardware. Example : i don't like to eat sweets but i like the taste of ry4 e-juice (a bit sweet) ,....try.. you will not loose nothing. Remember : buy some extra coils for your atomizer ,,,,before to use leave for a while the liquid to soak. Some problems can exist with this hardware : yes ,but you can ask here for support ,and i'm 100% sure about : you didn't touch your regular cigarettes with your wet hand ??---this is a problem ,mistake--- you didn't fall down your regular cigarette in the dust and after you take back??---is a mistake also ,but happened--- bad taste from your regular cigarette ???---happened ,i'm sure--- If something happened GO ON ,don't stack ....sorry about my bad english ...good luck
