LTNS Toby. You really should visit us more often you know . . . not least because your Silver Bullet is so lovely to use! We are very good at keeping secrets as well. Thank you for the link, I'm sure our lovely American friend Jerry, will be able to add further thoughts from across the pond as well.

It's true that the pharmaceutical companies and their minions, the "alphabet" groups, have been busy trying to get e-cigs banned, but on the state and local level. Since e-cigs came about, the "antis" (anti freedom, pro control) have switched their tactics and now oppose nicotine use, when before they opposed tobacco use. They disgust me, as I see them as a threat to individual rights and freedom.
We won a court case against the FDA, when they tried to classify e-cigs as a drug/device, which would have effectively banned them, but the Federal courts ruled that they are a tobacco product and must be regulated as such.
The first three items on the list have not come to pass yet and may not happen. That is the worst case scenario, the FDA has not made any regulations yet and may not for a couple of years.
We have signed petitions before and I personally have helped drum up support for at least one of them. Petitions have fallen on deaf ears, as the antis continue to spit out their propaganda, while ignoring the facts. Personally, I have given up on petitions, as has been proven in the past, they have done little or no good.
Money speaks in this country, not logic. There is a lot of money at stake, if we are allowed to legally continue to vape. The pharmaceutical companies stand to lose billions of dollars, if smokers choose e-cigs, instead of their products. The "alphabet" groups stand to lose millions in BP donations. The Federal and State governments stand to lose billions in tax revenue, if people stop buying cigarettes.
If I sound cynical, it's because I have been following the legal battle for two years, it's what drew me to the ECF in the first place. I have seen how those in power have ignored us and cling to the antis, believing every lie that they spew out. Only the Federal courts have sided with us, but that may have been a hollow victory.
As for the petition, or any petition for that matter, I would not discourage anyone from signing, but I am wary, as we have to register with the White House, before we sign it. The less people in government who know that I exist and that I vape, the better.

It's all a bit Big Brother isn't it Jerry, if you have to register at the White House before signing . . . I'm quite shocked at that, whatever happened to the Land of the Free. Although, I don't think that the powers that be here are any better/different . . . money always wins the day, it would appear. Although my concern would be, how likely will the UK be to adopt a similar policy to the US, if this situation were to happen.

I thought of that, Perpy, it's very possible that the UK may take the same route as the U.S. However, from what I have read on the forum, there are some fair and honest people in power over on your side of the pond, I'm not so sure about on my side of the pond.

Don't know about that Jerry, I've a very cynical view of Politicians/Government bodies . . . they all seem to make a lot of noise, backed up by very little action if it doesn't affect them.

Perpy, do you think that maybe we both have the same government, but it's being kept secret from the people ? The Queen does seem to visit the U.S. quite a bit. Hmmmmmm........lol

It's a certain breed in Government, that's for sure Jerry . . . whichever side of the Atlantic you're on.
