It's nice when you finally get an official move date, isn't it ladies?

Two of our removal quotes have come in. GB Liners wanted £2,300! Pickfords have given us a quote of £1,675. No brainer which one of those we'd go for. Just waiting on one other crowd to come out, but they can't make it until two weeks from now. Have decided I'll phone them asking for a ball park figure based on the cubic feet the other two came up with. Don't want to wait two weeks just for a quote if it's going to be along the same lines as GB's.

Fairly certain I didn't care near as much last time I was hiring an international moving company. Found one who said they'd ship to Ireland and booked them...end of. That said, I was only 24 at the time and a bit carefree about a lot of things.

i would like to wish you all good luck on your moves, hope they go smooth, and dolly i hope your settling in ok, it is a stressfull time but also an exciting one with new surroundings And a fresh start.
Me and the Ashtray (wife) are looking at the moment, and we viewed a house the weekend.
The area was nice, but something not quite right with the house.
Just could not put our finger on it.

And we have a winner! Robinson's turned up to quote our move a few days before we left for Portugal and they've given the best price by a few hundred quid. No difference in contents measured and services, just the price - and money saved is better in our pocket than in someone else's.

Next step is sorting out utilities. What's the norm for that? Do you tell gas and electric to shut the house down or transfer the account to the new owners on such n' such date?

The accounts are in credit because we pay a set amount each month regardless of the bill, so they're refunding us a few hundred quid. Between that and the money saved on movers, I feel another vape shop coming on soon.

Glad to hear it is all going well for your moving Dawn.

Read Gas and Electricity meters and let them both know your readings as they can supply a final bill and water if you are on a meter.
It is up to the new owners to find their own suppliers, you don't transfer anything to them.

Ah ok. Does the supply stay active or is it shut off Phoenix .? Reason I ask is because we've been getting along really well with the buyers and would like to make the transition as smooth as possible for them.

They're first time buyers and are pretty excited about getting into their new home, but have been kind enough to stall completion until the date we selected for departure. Would be a bit of a drag if they had to wait a further few weeks to get utilities switched on.

The buyers can just phone up whoever your suppliers are on the day of entry and the account will be transferred over to them. If they already have a supplier they could phone them and give them the moving date and take their own supplier with them. The power doesn't need to be shut off.

Well I got my keys on Friday and I'm busy trying to move all the small things and my mountain of clothes and books

I've got a man and van booked for Saturday to move the large items. New washing machine on order.

Strong blokes enlisted to cut down a bit fence and move the shed so that we can actually park in our parking space. Aerial guy going on Friday to install things so that we can have TVs in all the rooms.

New radiators with TRVs going in at weekend. Router arrived today and phone line should go live by this evening.

Ploughing through changing my address everywhere. RM wouldn't let me set up a redirection as I use 2 different last names

So, I seem to be reasonably organised, I think

Hope you get settle in quickly Karma so you have much needed R&R, it is a lot of hard work moving home, I am in my 9th house now and would love to move to a smaller place, but the thought of all that organising is putting me off.

Phoenix . this is the longest I've stayed in a house since I was a child. Been here 11 years and I'm a bit of a hoarder. So, if I can do it, so can you. I'm really starting to feel like I'm getting somewhere now

I know I could do it, but I have COPD and no Mr Karma to help me
