I've sold a lot of stuff and I'm replacing it for a more practical kit. New house, new job, new location and less driving so my vaping gear needs have changed too.

Good luck with it all jacquif hope your new purchases end up in the right location Bought a Coolfire 1 for when I'm in the garden and a Coolfire 2 for the novelty value. A nautilus and that's it. Norfolk has been my second home for a long time and I'm moving in with my partner so no worries about missing post.

OMG I've just packed up over 80 Knitting and Crochet magazines I've kept about a dozen. Considering on average I churn out a couple of scarves and a couple of baby hats each year it seems a tad excessive I'm going to get DD to try to sell them on the FB for sale locally page, I thought £35 for the lot?

Well, he walked around with his clipboard for half an hour while I told him what was going and what was staying. He then handed me some information to read through about what can and can't be taken to America. He said he'd have quotes for me in a few days and that was that. I asked him to give me quotes for packing myself and for letting them pack. Will do the same (if it's an option) with the next guy.
Not sure if I should stick with just two quotes or maybe add a third into the mix.

not sure newdawn if quotes are free and you have the time get 3 but cheapest isn't always best also, would it be wise to pack yourself? US customs are really tight What are you doing with the stuff you're not taking? I'm selling a couple of decent things and getting a house clearer to deal with the rest, I think I can't imagine how stressful your move is going to be, good luck x

I don't work (domestic engineer) and the quotes are free, so I think you're right Karma. Doesn't hurt to get one more. You make a good point about customs, and to add to that, I've had two discs removed in my upper spine already. Will probably just let them do the packing besides risking another disc or two right before our wedding! We've been very careful and only selected removal companies approved by this crowd www.bar.co.uk/index.php GB Liners was here today, Pickford will be here on Wednesday. Just need to choose one more and we're good to go. Lots of stuff stays with the house. All electrics, most furniture, all window treatments, all garden equipment and some other misc stuff. Anything we're not keeping that the home buyers don't want will be sent to the British Heart Foundation's charity shop if it's in decent shape. Anything that's rubbish will be put in the wheelie bin, a bit at a time, from now until we leave. We've been really lucky with our buyers. They were happy to stall proceedings until we were ready to book our flights which was a massive relief. They've said not to worry about anything being left. If they don't want it, they'll deal with it. We'd all been told by our solicitors 'completion' had to happen Mon - Fri, but we're not due to head out until Saturday. Would've meant crashing at a friend's house Friday night, but we don't have to now. Because I've been in contact with them from the start via texts and email, they've agreed to do completion on Friday, but won't take possession until Saturday. We'll give them one set of keys Friday and they're letting us stay here Friday night. Then they'll meet us here the next morning to collect the other set before we hit the road. By noon we're gone to catch our train and they'll start moving in. Couldn't ask for more really.

It's the calm before the storm Karma. We leave this house June 14 and fly to America June 16. That's about 10 weeks away. I'm expecting chaos to reign in the last four...

Yep, it will be chaos newdawn. We have moved countries four times, but it doesn't matter how much experience you have there's always going we to be hiccups and problems along the way. The thing I hate most about moving countries is having to wait sewn for all your household appliances and furniture to arrive. It takes 2mths to Australia. We learnt our lesson after the first move and decided the next time to sell off most stuff except sentimental stuff and start again afresh in the new country. It doesn't cost too much more replacing things if you sell old stuff off, take less stuff costing less in removal fees and then shopping cleverly and wisely buying new, and good secondhand on eBay.

Agree completely Blownupdolly. When I moved from New York to Ireland, I shipped over 5 rooms of furniture. What a pain in the backside when half of it didn't even fit in the rooms at the new place! Couldn't even sell it on because nobody else had a house big enough for it either. Never again. This time we're only taking the dining table & chairs because we reeeeeeeally like the set. Other than that, personal belongings and sentimental stuff is all. We'll be staying at my mom's when we first get there and have to put some things into storage. Plan is to find a house of our own asap, but until then we'll buy whatever we like over there (dinner set, cookware, etc.) and add it to the storage unit. The thing I'm dreading most about this whole move is staying at my mom's for however long. They've got a fluffy little Havanese named Carmen that they adore and spoil rotten, but Carmen doesn't like other dogs on her turf. Add our two goofy Labradors into the mix...I predict mayhem. On the plus side, most of the houses we've seen can be bought outright. No mortgage! if we see a house we like a lot but we're short of the buying price, she'll probably fork over the difference just to clear us out of there.

That's all the official paperwork through and the Vendors may be willing to bring the entry date forward from 2nd June which would save us having to move DS's stuff to this house only to then move it to our new house Can't believe how much solicitors charge, £165 + VAT per hour
