Well... would you spend £90 on a footie shirt that probably won't even get dirty on the field of action, before they're sent home! Surely they can't believe people will pay that for something that probably costs £2 including transport costs from the Far East... or would they? Please tell me we still have some common sense here!

There is only one thing sadder than grown men buying football shirts.
And that's grown men wearing them as 'leisurewear'

£90 is out of the reach of most of the general public!

No, I absolutely wouldn't when they cost pennies to produce and the workers making them are doubtless paid a pittance to do so. The cost of the children's strip is no better. But . . . I'd buy a Provari and some of the stuff we all buy from overseas is probably produced under the same conditions. So it's horses for courses I guess.

I feel sorry for The FA on this one. Labour and Conservative politicians have used it as a chance to score points and the media have jumped on it, obviously Cameron's comments have attracted the most publicity.
Back to The FA. Firstly, they have never had any control over the RRP of England shirts. They didn't with Umbro and they don't with Nike, it just isn't in the contracts. Secondly, the £90 quoted is for a shirt identical to the ones the players will wear and the fabric for them isn't cheap. True, £90 will probably be quite a profit for Nike, but there is a £60 option for those who won't be running around in the heat of Brazil and don't need the cooling technology. A lot of clubs/manufacturers have been offering exact copies of shirts and replicas for quite a while. My beloved Spurs don't seem to with Underarmour making the kits, but they have done in the past and it was a similar price to the Nike kits a few years ago. A bog-standard replica would have been around the £50 mark at the start of the season.
Another little point of interest, how much do you think a Nike-maufactured @rsen@l, Man Utd, Man City, Everton, Celtic, Barca, PSG or Juve shirt would have cost at the start of the season? Exactly the same RRP. Some pretty big teams there, A LOT of kiddies would want a United, City or Barca shirt. Probably more than will pester their parents for an England shirt as we are useless at the moment! Why is the price of Nike kits such an issue now? Nobody was moaning at the start of the season and it isn't as if Nike have pushed their prices up or are charging more for England kits than they do for the other nations they supply. This is only a story because the politicians want it to be.
For the record, I don't buy football shirts very often. I think they are stupidly expensive and I look like a muppet in them!

If Rugby League/the Rhinos were popular enough for people around the world, or even around the country, to buy shirts in the sort of numbers football shirts sell in, the prices would shoot up.
