What am I doing wrong?! :(

Hi all,

Bought a Riva following member's advice and I had a few hitches along the way but when my supplier sent me a pre-filled Kanger cartomiser, it worked perfectly and was more than happy vaping for 2 weeks. Now I've ordered a pack of five and some new e-liquid and for some reason, after I've filled them myself (about 30 drops as per recommendation), it tastes like burning and is absolutely disgusting.

Has anyone had this problem? What am I doing wrong? I received the cartomisers, filled them 30 drops and left them with the caps on overnight and blew through onto a tissue/gave it a wipe before I started vaping. It's not the e-liquid as I've used that before so I'm sure it's something that I'm doing wrong. I have used several cartomisers and tried my two different batteries doing detective work and have yet to find a solution.

Help! I'm getting cravings and I don't want a 'real' cigarette because now I'm on the right path and they taste bloody disgusting! I want my cherry vaping goodness back. Oh why did it have to happen on a Friday evening!

Hi Lucy, how are you actually filling the cartos? I always find it's best to use what is called the "condom method" on the first fill. It makes sure the juice is pushed right through -

Thanks for replying and posting the video. When doing it using that method, I noticed the guy still had the white cap on the cartomiser, I take that off and use a drip tip though. To fill it, should the white cap be on?

I leave the white cap on when filling with the condom method, then replace it with a drip tip. Lol, not sure though if it makes any difference though

Nope, it's fine for the first couple of huffs/tokes then it's gone nasty again. *big sigh* Any suggestions? I don't think it's defunked tastebuds because my OH tried it too and noticed a negative difference and I also tried a new cartridge with a different e-liq so it's not this specific e-liq. :S

When I fill my DC cartos using the condom method, I basically fill the condom until it's nearly full. Then I push the screw in part of the carto, slow down the condom until it reaches the bottom.

If needs be I repeat the process. You can usually tell if the carto is full as the juice starts seeping over the top of the filling.

Also, I never have the white cap on the cartos during filling. Then I add my drip tip & I'm usually good to go.

In my experience, when you get a horrid burnt taste, it's usually because the filling is too dry.

May I also recommend Scott's tutorials on youtube. His ID is igetcha69. His vids are very simple & easy to understand.

Lucy, I've not tried the Kanger cartomisers myself yet. So not sure if there is anything different about them. Hopefully others will be along that have used them.

The only other thing I can think of is that if the stuffing has got burnt, then that burnt taste is going to remain, no matter how you refill

Usually caused by letting the filling get too dry.

I followed the instructions though and now I'm down to my very last empty cartomiser, I'm so confused. That's £6 down the drain. :S :/

I did the condom method on a brand new cartomiser following the instructions, using about 3/4 of capfull to fill it and it still happened, still the burning taste.

Another confusion is that the 30ml bottle of eliq doesn't smell as strong as the little bottle I got in a pick and mix. I've been filling with the 30ml bottle, I'm going to try with the smaller bottle that I haven't had a problem with, absolutely soak the last cartomiser and use my other battery and see what happens but my hopes aren't high.

I need to get down to the bottom of this before I go ordering new cartomisers otherwise I'll doing the same thing and most likely receiving the same results! Why did this have to happen over the weekend, lol. I'm sure vapeescape will recognise my voice when I ring by the time I've sorted this out.

Hi, did you just do one fill of the condom? If so this maybe the cause. What I do is to fill up via the condom method until I see the liquid pooling on top of the carto, let it soak in for a few minutes and all should be good.

Lucy did you get any atomisers with your Riva kit?

If so, maybe try those instead. That's how most of us started vaping, using plain old atomisers.

Also, I personally wouldn;t have recommended the pre-filled cartos.

I had a similar prob not as bad as you tho Lucy...But i switched to smokeymizers absolutely no probs much better & lasts for ages!

I was wondering about suggesting a change, too ??? I find see-thru dual-coil cartomisers to be more idiot-proof. That's not to say you are an idiot, Lucy, but that my skills could be, um, skillfuller and I do better with the see-thru DCs.

Didn't do too badly with Smokeymizers either, and clearomisers.

But I'm sure you'd like to master what you've got.
