And here's one to make your bloods curdle .... First time I went to the far east with my wife, we were at her family's house under the mosquito net (and there's another one I'll come back to) ... I was fast asleep, woke up hearing this sort of buzzy noise, said to my wife "what is that"and she said "I don't know". Turned the light on ..... A bloody FLYING COCKROACH!! I mean the crawly ones are bad enough, but giving them wings? Oh come onnnnnnnnnnnnn & luckily you didn't stop to get a picture of it . . . . thank gawd for that (I'm not coming back to this thread in case the last statement was too much of a temptation for you to go away & find a picture)

I got stung by a bee when I half squished it by picking up a pair of garden shears it was sat on, last year though was the first time I have been stung by a wasp. Now it doesn't really hurt, it just stings bad for a day, so why do I suddenly become a flailing wreck whenever one comes near me? I didn't do anything to it either I was stood outside the hospital doors letting a wheelchair user go in and it got me right on the neck.
We get loads here, infact had 2 in the living room today, or the same one came back, yesterday though a bee ( a really big bumble bee ) decided to sit on my head oh god I was frantic, I jumped up, went dizzy, fell over , I'm sure they all line up somewhere to have a good giggle.
Now cockroaches I have no problem with, wouldn't want one crawling on me, but I'm quite happy to let one sit at the side of me ( outside ), those flying ones are scary though. I've just splatted a mosquito, they are early this year, that's me getting bit to death in my sleep.

My parents used to live in Africa, I spent holidays with them but one of the reasons I didn't stay for too long was the bugs...sticky Christmas bugs that glue themselves to you, huge swarms of flying ants, and massive, virtually unkillable flying cockroaches. Not to mention moths the size of pidgeons and fire ants that spray acid. How my mother put up with it for 20 years I'll never know, she hated bugs as much as I do, I could only visit at certain times of the year when the bug population was at its lowest in the dry season, when the rains started so did the creepy crawlies. Oh and my favourite was the fly that lays eggs on your washing and if it's not ironed properly the larvae burrow into your skin and live off you, I can't remember the name of it, but guess who had 3 of the little buggers in my back when I stayed with friends. The treatment was to Sellotape over the holes until the larva came up for air and then rip the little sucker out, making sure not to snap it in the process...lovely..

You're all mental! Wasps are ace! They eat all the pests that eat your flowers etc. I've only ever been stung by a bee or two, never had a problem with wasps. The problem with wasps is peoples imaginations.
Worst bite I ever got was from a horse fly or clegg, arm swelled up like it was almost the size of my leg ha ha, couldn't hardly move my hand because the skin was so tight, pain, itching etc etc. Way worse than a wasp.
I don't think hornets and wood wasps sting, daddy long legs and moths certainly don't lol.

chykensa - really - did you never google or wikipidia it ? - lol - so they are useful after all - I got stung by one 1 1/2 year ago - it was October , when most of them die and the rest is drowsy - ouch - it hurt - but fortunately - I am not allergic - am more concerned for hubby - and yes we have a wasp killing spray at home - and if you don't - that's for the ladies - and it's not nice - but better then getting stung , specially if you are allergic - use hairspray and then kill them the big ones on the photo I think are hornets and as much as I hate killing an animal - oh yes I have killed them already daddy longlegs - they can't bite you - so no problem ( although their poison, if they could bite you, which they can't) is one of the most potent one flying cockroaches - I thought all cockroaches - can fly - and they don't harm you - just don't kill them by treating on them, because if it's a female, you just smear the eggs on the floor for many little cockroach babies and ronaldo - rats are beautiful, cute and smart little creatures ! and I mean it

Now I dont mind cockroaches and the like, have a bearded dragon and he has to be fed live food...so cockroaches and crickets dont bother me like they use to.... The theory that a bee will only sting you if you annoy it is wrong.....had the odd sting now and again from a bee and I never even swatted at it let alone made it angry!! I know everything on earth has a use but some things are just plain wrong!!! Wasps are plain evil and will just go around stinging anything they fancy.....be it human or animal....most people or animals do not know they are allergic until after being stung...sadly too late for some animals!!

And I now refer back to the "mosquito" thing I said I would return to .... Out in the far east with wife & her family, drinking a HUGE amount of San Miguel in the back garden area in the evening, which is next to a river, and it is very humid all the time. Wearing shorts & no shoes, having a great time. Until the morning when I looked at my left foot ...... The oriental mosquitoes obviously thought "AHHH WHITE SKIN! NEW FLESH! JOIN IN EVERYONE!"

No problem with bees, which is odd because in my very long, naturally curly haired teenage years I acquired rather a lot in my hair whilst subduing a swarm. Don't mind wasps (my surname is Jasper) and ants fascinate me (amazing creatures). Centipedes terrify me.
