Yes Its that time again Bonfire Night is nearly here, and for the next three months the noise and danger of fireworks as started, IMOP they should ban them from public sale, and let the profesionals take control. You can not let your animals out, worry about your kids are not getting hurt, its a bloody nightmare at times, when I was a teenager about 35yrs ago you would never think of throwing or hurting any animal, sorry for ranting on, I think its time for a law change Tony

Makes you laugh. All this controversy over ecigs and stuff, yet they allow anyone to buy dangerous fireworks. Crazy time of the year.

I always arranged fireworks in my garden for my daughter and nephews , it's now a damned shame when responsible parents can't do the same for their kids .. I must admit I have to agree with you all that it's come to the stage whereby they should be banned from public sale .
I still think it's a shame they can't be enjoyed responsibly in your own garden .
IMO it's the stupid scrotes that spoil it

I agree 100% + with what everyone has said. A still burning rocket missed me by literally a few inches 2 years ago when I was walking home from work. I spent the rest of the walk staring up at the sky and tripped up on uneven tarmac.

Have to say, I hate bans of any description - especially e-cig bans, so I could never support a ban on anything. Support one, you've got to support them all, haven't you, really...

I distribute a lot of fireworks, I've already been cleaned this year lol. But anyways I no longer supply to just anyone. I make sure they know what they are doing before I sell them. I don't really do small, it's more on the boundary of what can be legally sold without needing to be licensed.

I too hate the "ban mentality" it's the easy hammer to crack the nut. Better control is what is required which is down to resources, which as we all know are not there. But there is Parental control, parents just let kids run amock these days then if they do get in trouble with Authorities they side with the child, or say "I can't cotrol my child" whereas they should also remonstate with the child. Good behaviour and social education needs to be taught by Parents and led by example.

personally i dont think this would come under a ban where people are being controlled by our government. for me it is just common sense that no one without a license should be able to buy and use them. there not just a banger and a catherine wheel any more. they used to be dangerous and now there bloody lethal weapons. i hate bans and being controlled by the people that know whats best for us but i just see fireworks in private use as totally irresponsible by any governmenet. for me they serve no purpose at all other than say the millennium or similar and then only in controlled exhibitions. if i never see one again i wouldnt miss them. raggy...............

My social head says ban them from general sale and only allow properly organised displays... My pet owners head says ban them outright and birch anyone who uses them. Both my dogs hate them and get really stressed. Last year, Cressie got so upset that she literally chewed her way out of her steel cage, tearing chunks out of herself and stabbing herself on the ragged chewed wire. There was blood everywhere. As a result, my poor puppies have been put on valium by the vet this year... and it still isn't stopping the stress for them. Sean

The problem with using tranquilizers is that you'd need them from October till January. Fireworks have been blasting away here for the past fortnight and are driving me mad and I'm not even a pet! George (parrot) just keeps very still and quiet under his blanket at night but heaven only knows how wild birds and animals must be coping! When I had my dogs they were absolutely terrified and although tranquilizers helped a little bit on the 'night' itself, I didn't want to keep them zombified for weeks at a time!
I definitely feel that explosives should not be on sale to private individuals without a license - when I was a kid fireworks were for November 5th only and were 'special.' The whole 'magic' has now gone - a pity.

There's no easy answer is there to the problem, why should responsible firework users be penalised for the mindless activities of some . . . the same can be said of other unlicensed products. Perhaps tighter control from those who sell fireworks would help?
Although having had a dog who was terribly traumatised by loud bangs of any description, because of fireworks . . . from October until the end of January was a horribly stressful time for us both, due to the random ones that were set off at any time of the day or night.
The main nights, you can prepare for and deal with to a degree.
So for that reason only,I'd like to see them limited to use at public firework displays.
