So this is my current all day set up, and I love the size of the zmax...in 18350 mode but not keen on when it is extended. Is there any mod out there that is about the size of the 18350 mode, but can take a 18650 battery? Is it possible? Would a mech mod allow this?

Most mechs will be like that. My nemesis isn't much different in 18650 than my vamo is in 18350. Mechs tend to be slimmer also.

I thought as much but it can be difficult to pin down info on mech's and as I have never used them, I need as much info as I can get. Maybe I am reading wrong, but if I get a kick, I can set the wattage output? I only vape at 7 watts on all my juices as they are all similar. And what would I need a switch or a magnet for? My understanding is that mech mods are simply a tube without any electronics

A mechanical mod would be the shortest device available. With a kick and an 18650 they start to get longer.... With an 18500 and kick, you'd be midway. if you generally vape around 7 watts, you (we) might be able to come up with a combination of battery and atomizer so you could manage without the kick. I bought a nice Sigelei mechanical (off here) and only use it with just an 18650 battery. I'm looking to use a 2.0ohm atomizer on it. You could do it with a 2.2ohm atomizer. It might be a little powerful at first and you can't use the battery all the way to "empty" but yes, you could get ages.....

Yep just a tube with a battery in it. They will work fine with springs instead of magnets. All the magnets do is make the switch a bit smoother. A kick isn't essential either, all you really need is the mod, whatever atomiser you want and a good quality battery. An ohm meter is useful for checking resistances if you are rebuilding yourself but not essential if you have a vv/vw that can do it. A kick does give you a constant vape and stops your battery being discharged too low but it adds a few millimeters to the length of your mod.

So with a kick, I would need more tubes is that right? The problem why I have not looked further since vw is that the juice I vape will not go any higher. When I used to use standard ego's I was wondering why my vape tasted funk and even more so with vv until I found out that I was burning the juice. 7 watts is perfect but I read with a mech mod, it performs like the ego set up ( with more power of course rom the batt) where it starts high and discharges, but also that you are not to let them discharge too much

Yes, if you had a regular battery, you could try out the "gradually dropping power idea"....
Alternatively, If you use 2.0-2.4ohm atomisers, you could set your Zmax to VOLTS. Start it on 4.2v and vape for few sessions.
Then, set it to 4.1, 4.0, 3.9 and see at what point you notice a difference or feel it's gone too weak.
On my Sigelei, I notice it's getting weak around 3.5volts, so that's when I charge it back up. That's probably about half way through it's discharge.
So, on a 2000mAh AW, that's using the first 1000mAh.

I like small mods the picture has my DNA 18650 75.4 mm high (shorter than any 18650 mech I an aware of djs), an Astro clone 18350 & 2 Pisces T clones in 18500 & 18650. The Astro comes with a Kick extension (not pictured) and has a very decent voltage drop.

The coils i use are 2.0 but anything higher than 7 watts tastes burnt on my juice, that is why i stuck with vw so i could regulate it. On your Sigelei (i bet that was the one i was looking at ) you mentally know when to change the battery?

All depends on budget..
mech mods are small but they aren't protected against short circuits etc. Not for beginners IMO.
Major downside is the adjustability (have to take them apart to adjust the kick if you want to use one).
On the other hand, you can go regulated and keep good size vs battery life but you're looking at £150+.

MrsmacHere's a picture of my Nemesis Clone Mod with a 18350 battery + Kick ring it measures 80mm next to the TZmax in 18350 mode which measures 115mm The Kick adds 15mm so without it the Nemesis measures 65mm The Kick ring is the small stainless steel section between the 2 gold colour rings and is removable/addable.

On your Sigelei (i bet that was the one i was looking at ) you mentally know when to change the battery? Hmm. 2.0ohm coils are going to be very strong for you on a fresh battery (mechanical mod).... do you buy the atomizer heads? in which case, is there a 2.4 maybe? With a mechanical (no kick) I tend to get a feeling when it's dropping, but sometimes that's as early as 3.7v. If you want long battery time, you're going to need 18650s. However, you could use an 18500 battery and a kick in the size of an 18650. I'm planning on this, but just can't seem to click "buy" on the batteries. They are 1,100mAh, which is barely more than 800 and seems hardly worth it. Might as well use the Vamo in 18350. ???

I don't totally agree Dan using unprotected batteries and sub ohming could cause problems but with protected batteries and shop bought 2.0 heads there really isn't a problem. Not that long ago, if you didn't want to stick with a cig-a-like your only other option was a mec mod! Mrsmac I like geordie_vaper suggestion of an MVP

If your budget allowed £100+ then a Vaporshark DNA30 might be worth considering as it is tiny, but is also vw / regulated. It has an internal 1200mAh battery, but at 7watts I'd imagine that would/should last a full day, unless you chain vape.
One downside, to the dna30 chip, it is that it doesn't step down the voltage. So to get a 7 watt vape, you'd need to use a 2.4ohm coils. Your 2.0ohm coils would give 8.8watts.
