That was one of the points that I applauded the ASH lady for, when the reporter insisted on calling our habit smoking  - she very firmly corrected her in no uncertain terms.

A couple of amusing comments from The Guardian article linked above.

"Why are you allowed to "vape" in places you can't smoke?" - For the same reason as you're allowed to do the crossword in places you can't smoke; neither activity is smoking, so whether or not it's a smoking area is irrelevant.

No, it's not. As for the other points people will make here:
"We don't know what's in them". Yes, we do.
"They have anti-freeze in them". No, they don't.
"They act as a gateway to smoking". No they don't. See article above
"All the kids round my way use them". No, they don't, you big liar.
"They look like smoking and might make people think smoking is OK". Only if you have an IQ at about the level of a particularly dim sheep.
"The batteries explode". All batteries can explode.
"Somebody was using one in the pub/train/restaurant/etc and my clothes stank". You're lying again.
"You're still addicted to nicotine". And? What's that got to do with you?

absolutely Perpetua, and well done to Debbie Arnott for doing so. It really is one of my pet hates, as I made clear on that Radio Wales prog t'other week....... I really REALLY wish that some of the idiots in the media and "health professions" would get it into their thick skulls

The cynic might argue that, in the case of smoking cessation advisors, they realize that tobacco smokers are giving up pretty easily via e-cigs and not by 'cold turkey' (which rarely works) or their near-useless NRT and 'leaflets'. Thus they're all pretty much going to be out of a job in the near future if e-cigs are allowed to take off, and so they continue to push methods with are guaranteed to fail, and try and get e-cigs banned. And as I'm a cynic, that's what I'm arguing.....
