Dolly, Welcome back! Maybe something like this would work.. www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-MC5908-450Kg-Scissor-Motorcycles/dp/B001SFVG5O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1400075567&sr=8-5&keywords=scissor+liftSmall enough to manoeuvre around and would give you a good solid base to work on. Of course, Mr Dolly would have to place the item on there for you, but he can be trained. On the other hand, you might want to save the chest of drawers for later (if you're thinking of selling it then it would be a higher priced item, so worth saving until you have perfected your craft.) You could do the rounds of boot sales, charity shops, local waste recycling depots etc, and stock up on picture frames, boxes, trays and the like. Doesn't matter if they are metal rather than wood. Both surfaces will be transformed with paint or decoupage. My bathroom cabinet cost me £2 from the local tip and has been transformed with decorative paint effects and some glass paint, and it was, frankly, a fairly tatty bit of MDF furniture... You'll also come across stools and little tables going for next to nothing. If nothing else comes to hand then decorate flower pots, tin plates, little things that are unloved.. I used to do lots of this stuff, loved it, lost the motivation when there was no longer anyone to tell me how great I was..lol Best of luck, Lynda

Hi Dolly, The motorcycle stands mentioned by decoy and lynwlt look much better value. As long as you can handle the height when at their lowest point. Whatever you decide on I will help out making a bigger platform or anything else I can. Lots of lovely up-cycling ideas too. I can see a stall at a craft market in the future. Do you have a local freecycle at your new place? I haven't been down to Hackspace as much as I'd like. I went a whole 2 months without going at all. I've been mad busy with work. I am trying to get down their to finish a wood box mod for the meet on Saturday, but I am going to struggle to make the meet at this rate. Just shout if their is anything you think I might be able to help with, I can borrow any tools from Hackspace.

Hi Dolly just a thought is there a bath sling/lift you could use to lift things onto a table. Don't forget you would be vat exempt on this type of thing.

Don't know if this is a good place to mention that lots of towns/cities have wood recycling places where recycled wood (there's a surprise!) sell wood really cheaply.
It occurred to me that some of the people who create mod stands and the like might be able to access really cheap bits of wood. Softwood is usually available in abundance, hardwood in small pieces.
Just thought I'd mention it.
Do you think it's worth mentioning on the Mods forum?

I might well opt for one of those as they take up less storage space. As you said, Mr D can lift stuff onto it. I have though of all sorts of things to practice on. The first thing will be my granddaughters bedside table. It's only small. She is begging me to do it white and girlie pink (of course! What other colour is there for a 6yr old lol) she then wants me to decoupage a fairy and some butterflies on it. Her wish is my command. Just hope I don't make a dogs dinner out of it. Funny you mention flower pots. When my kids were small, I used to paint them all sorts of colours and patterns. All my friends and neighbours loved them. I think there was at least one of my pots in every house in the street. I shall revisit that again I reckon. BTW...thanks for your pm recently x

Will get back on there I reckon. I will let you know if I need help with anything. You are always such a sweetie

Never knew they existed! Might go up there one day. There's also an auction place in Rayleigh. Not sure if I would get stuff cheap enough, but I would certainly consider selling stuff I've done up. Gonna go buy some paint tomorrow. Some of it isn't cheap! I do have some good quality brushes though.

Blownupdolly just thought I should mention this, maybe totally irrelevant, but do you have any breathing issues? Paint, turps, varnish, solvents all which would need to be used in a confined space, I wouldn't want you to dish money out, and then it make you ill. My mum used to oil paint, bloody good she was too, but copd, and emphysema meant she could not do it any more, due to the smells. ( fumes )
