E-cigarettes 'help smokers to quit'

Smokers who use e-cigarettes to quit are more likely to succeed than those who use willpower alone or buy nicotine replacement therapies, such as patches or gum, a study suggests.

The survey of nearly 6,000 smokers found a fifth had quit with the aid of e-cigarettes.

That was 60% higher than those who did not use the devices, the study said.

i now think we as a vapeing community are getting to big now and i dont see how they can shrew us over now we are getting good press like that and from the bbc and when i start all i got in the pub was how come boots and all the chemist are not selling them

but now even them are selling them not very good ones but even a cig like one is good to get us out there

one thing is really bugging me......

..in the photo at the top of the article, someone's using an ego-type device - good stuff, not a cig-a-like...

...BUT, in such circumstances, they tend to show people holding them like a cig-a-like, what's that all about? I've never, repeat, NEVER seen anyone hold an ego like that?!?!?!?!?!?

Just seen seen this on BBC news at one.
61% more effective than willpower alone.
63% more effective than patches.
Number of people getting addicted to nicotine via vaping negligible.

All stuff we already new, but it's nice to see it being reported to the masses.

The video footage and the pictures are taken in the Vape Lab. He lends out egos to newbies, so that might of been that guys first vape. It's always full of new vapers and Egor(the owner) does a sterling job educating, recoiling, etc for them. The BBC seem to be filming in there every week these days.

I've just realised, I am due to be doing some test for the guy who did this study Professor Robert West at the UCL in July. It sounds like it's a couple of overnight stays while they test how long I can go without having a vape. They also said they'd be putting me under pressure. Should be interesting.

Is it just me or do others think all this positive ecig press is so when they get the medicine passed they will not look total idiots when they turn round then and say the ecig is the best thing since sliced bread but only the ones we recommend

Interesting, seniorphil. I just went it for an hour or so for this study. It's a shame they (UCL) were very interested in taking pictures of everyone's devices, but the media will do what they see fit.

This is a UCL study reported by the BBC, nothing directly to do with the MHRA or government(s).

Well, indeed (hence I said so), but this study and the reporting of it are nothing to do with either.

I think we need to be conscious not to make this whole process 'us' and 'them'.

I understand where you're coming from barry, I just can't help but be slightly cynical of who's feeding what to the media....

I would dearly love to be wrong, but I just can't get the niggle from the back of my mind...

The better universities are fairly good at getting press releases directly to broadcasters, in my experience
