BBC E-cigarettes 'help smokers to quit' 20th May 14

It may prove to be wrongly placed faith, but I have faith in this doctor. He is already sticking his neck on the line by publishing tests that take the opposite line to the government. If he publishes something we don't like at least it will be based on evidence and not guesswork.

The BBC crew and doctors that interviewed and health screened me last week at the Vape Lab for "Trust me I am a Doctor" were very positive, but I'll have to wait and see what gets cut and what makes it past the editor's.

I really think we should work with these people, they are not all out to get us. It is frustrating to fight against guesswork and misinformation, so when you get the chance to work with evidence based science I can only see it as refreshing.

Robert West is not a medical doctor, he holds a PhD in psychology. Most medical doctors, especially GPs, are not good scientists (that's the usual chip on the shoulder of a PhD, I should admit).

I haven't seen the full report but my interpretation of the figures is this:
Of the 3000 smokers who had not tried e cigarettes 750 had quit.
Of the 3000 who had tried ecigarettes 1200 had quit.
If more than 600 out of the 3000 who had tried ecigarettes had only tried lookalikes then that would mean that most people who try 2nd generation devices quit.

Some surveys in the past, looking at patches and gum have distinguished between those simply using patches and those using patches in conjuction with a support group or on a support program. Its a shame they didn't investigate the success rate of those who had tried ecigarettes and joined a forum. I would bet that success rate for that group (ie us) would be more than 75%.

Feeling a bit conscientious all of a sudden holding my ecig as I keep looking at it just to make sure its the cool way. Good luck to them however they hold them

Weren't the papers saying that e-cigs were bad for you and didn't help people quit a few weeks ago?, certainly changed their tune all of a sudden.

I think there is a them and us    US we know vaping is better for us....... US  The scientist that are going to the trouble of proving its safe   and Us that are willing to listen and make our own minds up on that scientific evidence

THEM that have vested interests to keep vaping under their control .........Proof being that med regs was voted against in the Euro parliament so because they voted wrong and they wouldn't get their fat brown envelopes if they did not control it they went into closed session and overturned the DEMOCRACY

I'm not sure we do know that. We make an educated guess, who isn't to say vaping causes instant death after 20 years of vaping.

I think if we are honest we all have vested interests. We vape and thus we want vaping to be a better alternative. I'm not saying it isn't, but to deny we do not have a vested interest does not help our cause.
