The more I look the more questions I have (been there before)
Is it better to get 72mg nic and obviously thin it down more, or 36mg nic and thin it less, what works out the most economical or are there other reasons for the difference, I'm aiming for around 10mg nic at the end
and another little aside, eventually I intend getting down to 0 nic, do you then just do a VG/PG mix with your desired flavouring

But there is a case for buying high strength because a) low-strength limits your options more on the PG/VG mix unless you buy both PG-based and VG-based and b) if the eurocrats prevent anybody selling more than 24mg you may want some strong nic available if you like to vape anything over about 18mg or your chosen flavouring is a bit weak. Yes, that is what you do to approach 0 nic. FlavourArt used to do something called Bitextra which was supposed to give the throat hit without the nicotine, don't know if they still do.

I'm toying with the zero nic because the throat hit doesn't seem to matter anymore, its the flavour I'm after

It's worth mixing yourself some zero or low nic samples maybe Q . . . the folk I know who have been the most successful reducing their nicotine strength have done it very gradually, giving themselves time to adjust - Dave @darch, is the vaper I'm thinking of especially here. But you may find it works better for you cutting it out completely . . . .

£45 is about right for 500ml of nic base, and yes, I find the higher strength nic base more economical as I buy my VG from Superdrug now, less than £2 for 200ml. There are some good suppliers of PG on eBay too, the larger quantity you can afford the cheaper it is.

I'm toying with the zero nic because the throat hit doesn't seem to matter anymore, its the flavour I'm after I went into 2013 on 15mg strength, the first batch of 2013 was at 14mg I then reduced by 1mg every second mix untill I hit zero on the 17th of November so that's six months at zero nicotine and haven't missed it. There is still a certain ammount of throat hit as your body adjusts to the different strength. Dave

I've sent you a pm Q If he's not interested, I'll be putting up a 500ml bottle of 72% nic base in the classifieds later today because I can't take it to America with me.
