Following on from my 'Plonker' post last week, here's a follow up. Have been having trouble lately getting a lot of channels on TV, and didn't know if it was the telly or the aerial. Didn't want to call anyone out as long as I could get something (I'm a tight wad) but last night it suddenly decided it couldn't get a signal from any of them. Went completely dead, so I thought it must be the telly, the aerial looked OK and I could usually get something. So, this morning have been searching Currys, Argos etc online for a reasonably priced new one. Anyway I've just been to the supermarket where I work for a bit of shopping, and there staring me in the face was a range of Blaupunkt TVs in the sale. The sales price was good, and there is one more day left of our increased staff discount. So for once, I made a decision and bought one. Got it home, assembled it, switched on to auto tune, was looking good... then 'No Signal'. So I've just bought a telly I don't need, but at least I now know what the problem is... it's just so quiet without it on in the background. Just worried now what Plonker Part 3 is going to be.

Check the plugs on the aerial leads Raffles they cause a lot of probs and are cheaper the replace than the aerial. The cable can easily be pulled out in the metal plugs if you unplug them by pulling the lead and not to plug, if they are giving probs you can get them for pennies at screwfix.

You will be able to return it Raffles without a problem, I'm sure I bought a Blaupunkt from Sainsburys for the caravan in March. When I went back in May the remote had died and couldn't get another so Sainsburys changed it without a problem. I paid another £15 and got a 32 " instead of the 24", their TV offers were THAT good.

Speaking of plonkers.
The other day I cleaned, dry burned and wicked 3 kayfun clones.
Next morning I filled one with juice and left it to stand for a few minutes before taking a vape.
Yuk!! no vapour and burnt metallic taste.
Took a primer pull and tried again - gurgly and juice pouring from air hole.
Drained and took it apart to check the wick - I hadn't put one in!
The other two were fine but I had missed one.

I think we need a sub-forum... 'I've been a plonker today'... to make us feel a bit better, and know we're not alone.

You can get decent ariels form the likes of asda for about £15, got one myself recently, works great.
I had the same problem with the signal but unlike some people I presumed it was the ariel lol.

What few realise is that cables go porous after a while and if when ariel was install connection was not sealed then water will get in cable and short, its a common problem with Sat cables to,also if you dont have a fixed wall connection[faceplate connection] cable moving eventually will break inside, hence why good idea to use a wall box and patch cable
try redoing plug end for TV sometimes its just come loose, but sounds more like heavy corrosion Ariel end

I used an extension lead on my last indoor ariel and when I unplugged the actual ariel from it I got a cracking signal lol. With freeview you can go into a section in the menus somewhere and see the signal strength. That's how I knew mine was the ariel.
