menthol crystals

hi all - so I got myself now those menthol crystals from boots - but ehm what do i do with them - how do I make a concentrate - thanks

Half fill a 10ml bottle with crystals, top up with PG, lid on and hold it under the hot tap for a couple mins, giving it a good shake now & then until all dissolved

As Lairy says, I stand mine in a bowl of warm water and keep shaking...you'll see it all start to dissolve nicely.

thanks both - heard also once to put it a few secs in the microwave ? - but guess i will go just with the hot water but maybe in the ultrasonic

Bit of a faff but you could also crush your crystals first in a pestle and mortar, they'll dissolve much quicker

I just a add a few to my mixes without dissolving them first and not had any problems.

I zapped mine in the microwave, two bouts of 2 seconds with vigorous shaking in between -- yes I'm very idle!

My 850w microwave heats up a 10ml bottle of (pg / vg/ juice) in about 3 sec. so please be careful when using micro.
I used it to dissolve my stevia powder in pg. 3 sec and bam, warm pg. well quite hot actually.

I shove some ( no idea how much ) in a china ramekin, top up with PG until it looks about right . . . then do a microwave zap, for a couple of seconds at a time.

No risk of a plastic bottle melting, the crystals dissolve easier/quicker in a larger thingy, then it's simple enough to draw the concentrate up in a syringe and bottle Clivia.

I also keep a Menthol specific ramekin/syringe as menthol does tend to taint whatever it touches.

The menthol crystals I got from Sainsburys were already very small. 5g tub into a 10ml bottle top up with pg 2seconds in microwave shake and done. They dissolved in that time too.

Just reading through this... if you use 5mg to make 10ml at B&M prices it works out at:
5mg = £1.99 (figures from Lloyds Pharmacy website) plus your PG,
now seeing as 10ml of menthol (F'art) concentrate is £3.20 (Chefs Vapour) is it REALLY worth the bother?

OR... is this any good? 100mg of Menthol Crystals for £7.40 with free delivery

I guess whatever the maths of it are,  you can still make the menthol concentration at a strength that suits your tastes Q. It's also quite a fun/satisfying thing to do and part of the DIY process perhaps?

Would you really need a 100 grams of crystals, unless you really, really like Menthol?

Greg I don't do scientific. I just know for my fruit menthol mixes that 4/5 crystals are enough for me and if I make a plain menthol about 20 will be just right.

Q for most people 5g will last a long time, my las pot lasted about a year. If the crystals get damp they will start dissolving.
Extremely good find for people who use a lot of menthol crystals. Wish I used more as I love a bargain.

hm - how on earth do you get those crystals into a 10ml bottle ??? - Greg has a point with the pestle and mortar - Q has a point with the question : is it worth it ? and of course our Perpetua is right with the fun

I finally poured all the crystals in my measuring cylinder - it was at the 10ml line - topped it to the 20ml line with pg - put it in the open ultrasonic - till nearly desolved - poured it into a 20ml bottle which is right now in the closed ultrasonic to have the crystals desolved - and apart of all that - yep it was fun
