Although I agree with erik514 that finding a good second hand guitar will offer better value for money, I understand if you want yo be able to walk in somewhere and pick something up. I have an epiphone Les Paul - it cost a lot more than the special ii, and that was 15 odd years ago, so I was really surprised to see the price of it. Les Pauls are heavy, chunky guitars, and access to the upper frets is limited because it only has a single cutaway. On the plus side, they sound thick and creamy, the action should be nice and low, and the neck has a very comfortable profile. It's my personal favourite guitar, but I'm not sure I'd want to have started on it. Of the others, I've not tried any of them - however, my brother in law is sponsored by Ibanez (he's a bass player in a metal band) so I could ask him for an opinion if you'd like it. Looking at them, the last on your list looks like the one I'd pick, but that's going by pics only - I like the shape, it looks light and thin, two half decent humbucker pickups (I'm not sure if it's coil-tapped so you can use them as single coils as well), solid bridge, and 24 frets. I'd love to offer some informed advice on what to get but I've just not got a clue on what else is on the market at the moment!

A floyd rose is a whammy bar of sorts, ... you can bend strings until your heart is content using the bar and it wont go out of tune, if you snap a string tho the whole guitar goes out of tune,

Has to be a good floyd though, nothing worse than some cheap nasty thing that ruins your whole playing experience.
That being said I would highly recommend not getting a guitar with a floyd for a beginner lol
Both my current jobs are floyds though, love them.

I'd second the advice about a beginner avoiding a Floyd Rose tremolo, it's a 'floating' tremolo which means it relies on two pivot points and springs to keep it in equilibrium or balance, the slightest pressure on the bridge from the palm of the hand will effect the pitch of the strings.
This type of tremolo can be a nightmare to set up even for experienced players. As an experienced maker/repairer I can set up a Floyd Rose in minutes, but that was after many frustrating hours trying to find the easiest way to do it.

The necks on some of the cheaper Ibanez guitars are pretty impressive versus the cost. My son has a couple of them and they feel as nice as my American Strat to play. An important part of the experience for a new player. I must admit though I only play my acoustics these days. YouTube is a brilliant resource - I wish it had been there when I first learned in the 70s.

I have an old RG507Bk and I've played a good few RG series. i don't think you'd go wrong with that as a first electric. AS LONG as it is set up properly and playing well. I'd want the person demoing the one I was actually buying (be it the display model or one from the store) But I'd want to hear it being played and an honest opinion from the staff member.
But looks nice, the mahogany especially.

Nice... now get off the forums and go learn it....lol... Amp wise, dont let wattage ratings fool you, for practice a little 10 to 15 watt is more than enough to disturb the neighbours ....lol
