I've got a question for you , I'm relatively happy with the flavours I have but I'm always looking for more.I want a relatively easy way to flavour taste. I've tried a 306 bridgeless atty , a IGO-W and now a Zenith V2 clone , and I can't seem to get them right. The 306 was rubbish , the IGO-W was to airy and the Zenith is good with the air control to make it tighter, but after the first 3-4 puffs the flavour goes away , even when I change the wicks and quickly put in another flavour I don't get flavour at all, it's a taste but not the flavour that I should be getting , I've tried them with my regular flavours because I know what their like and they seem to have a taste but not the flavour I'm used to at all and the same as the rest, so I don't think dripping is for me. Is there any other way I can do this, or would you suggest using a PT2 or a Mini PT2 ( I already have ) and just redo the wick in those ?
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Andy

The zenith v2 looks very similar to the Apo witch I have, and that works very well.
Whats the setup your using? single or duel? and what resistance/power setting?
Sometimes it can be just the position of the coil/coils in relation to the airholes that determins how it performs.

Hi Andy, morning. I've only just over the past week had the dripper yehaw Moment! It's ALL about the airflow pal. I thought I want the tight draw for ages and to some extent, still do..... But..... Air hole gotta be in line with coil and coil not to low either or you just pull air over the top of it. Any miss alignment will result in a greater throat hit /harshness and less vapour. Draw technique also plays a huge part. Wide open you can quite gently just " breathe in lol " but closed off I find I have to suck a lot harder to get the airflow. Wattage, about 6 - 8 watts at 1.2ohm seems fine. Can go a lot higher but you gotta keep the air coming . also don't over saturate to coil or you just boil liquid and get a gob full. What are you using for wick BTW? And coil setup? Hotspots could be an issue?

Ruffie x2... it's all about airflow (and your build, wicks, device, technique! lol) I was ready to give up on dripping after my first couple of builds, but when you hit a good build you may wonder why you ever vaped anything else. Try and get your airflow directly under your coils. too much air and you will get a mouthfull of air, and wonder what all the fuss is about. too little air and you will likely get a mouthful of juice. The too much/too little thing can be affected by how you draw as much as how you adjust the afc. Also juice plays a big part. To my taste buds high pg juice tastes terrible in a dripper). 30/70, or as high vg content as you can manage, and also if you are blowing clouds, lower your nic right down. (12mg juice at 0.4ohms/44w damn near took my head off!!!!!) Stick with it, try a few more builds, it'll be worth it when you get a good one

For flavour testing i use the magma or veritas, magma is easier to set up though, best flavour that I have got from a dripper....well from anything really. I was the same, dripping wasn't for me but the inconvenience of using a dripper has completely gone away now that I have these flavour RDA's. Also you could try a wickless build as you don't even need to change out any cotton.

My experience is that for the same resistance, using thicker Kanthal and more turns in the coil/wrapping the coil round a wider drill bit or screw driver there are fewer problems. I'm not saying better just easier and more reliable.

Here are a few images of my last build : -
I used an internal coil diameter of 2mm , 11 wraps of .25 kanthal , to give a 1.2 ohm build. You can see the height and coil position and I position the air hole ( I know it's small but I like a tighter draw ) right in front of the coil.
Have I done anything wrong ?

I have tried a tonne of 22mm dripping atties and never did i find one that can compare to a small chamber atty ... the 22mm jobbies were too lacking for me, i use Ebarons now and the flavour and throat hit is far better than any 22mm i tried, i even have a couple of cheap A7 style atties that are worlds above anything else i tried too.

The only thing I may suggest is to raise the coils a bit higher so the hole is in line, but below the coil and also tidy up the cotton a bit so the air can flow better. Here is my Apo build and you will see the raised coils and how I have provided gaps under and around the coil for the air to flow. You can see the air hole sits below the coil and the gap underneath the coil makes sure air is directed through it. Theres not a lot wrong with your wick and coil. I just think that using a tighter draw, you need to maximise what air you have, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the pics , it does make a lot on sense , I'm just wondering why I get flavour for the first few puffs then it either goes or I get a taste of not much at all, maybe it's the heat, just don't know.Maybe the Zenith clone isn't up to scratch either. I just didn't want to go down the line of washing out a Mini Protank 2 every time, as it takes a while to do, that's all.

leave room under the coils for air to move you dont need loads of cotton for dripping just touching the deck as the deck will hold a small amount of juice in it

That is a mystery. Is it producing the same amount of vapour when the flavour tails off? I don't think its the heat, I have found a warmer vape gives better flavour. I get about 4-5 vapes before I need to drip again, but that's a 40w build I would try making some adjustment and when it gives a good cloud of vapour the flavour should be more constant.

x3, raise the coils a bit, and less cotton. The cotton looks quite dry too, so if that's how you vape it, i'd suggest more juice. Also, and really not having a pop here so please take it as constructive critiscism, but those coils look a bit raggedy... one of them has a bit of overlap, which won't be good (potential hot spot). Try a few more builds, but aim for some neater coils like the ones in hijack 's pics. (loads of good coil building vids on youtube, riptrippers has covered just about every build you can imagine!) Torching your coils before you install them can make it easier to keep them neat on the install (makes them less springy) - if you don't have a torch you can hold them over the gas cooker until they glow. All these little tweaks will make a huge difference. That looks like a vw device, what power are you vaping it on...? Stick with it, you'll get it going soon enough.

All these little tweaks will make a huge difference. That looks like a vw device, what power are you vaping it on...? Stick with it, you'll get it going soon enough. The pics were from a few days before and I hadn't put any more juice on the wicks. The coils are little on the ragged side, but even after torching the coils they don't seem to be much less springy. Also I need to get a larger or smaller torching device as I'm stuck between an ordinary lighter or my plumbers blow torch which is a little bit of overkill , lol I'm now TRYING to use less and less cotton to see if it makes a difference and have raised the coils up too.I'm now using an internal coil diameter of 2.5 , 10 wraps and getting 1.5 ohms.I'm also using more air too which has made a difference but not for long.I'm getting good flavour, but after a while I'm losing flavour again.I've noticed what taste I'm getting now when the flavour is gone and it's pure sweetness , not sugary , just very sweet. Most of the juices I'm trying do have sweet notes to them , but the rest of the flavours just disappear.I've just tried Mt Baker Vapor's "Ecto Cooler" and it was fantastic for the first few pulls then it just went sweet like the others and the orange totally disappeared.I kept puffing away seeing if it would come back and then it was getting to hot to, which is something I really don't like in a vape , I still had enough juice though.
Perhaps dripping just isn't for me ? and perhaps I just need to get myself some more PT2's or MPT2's but they are pricy and take a while to set up again.
I've also noticed that quite a few vendors and I think maybe the manufacturers are going away from single coils and going to double coils. This is a problem for me ( maybe others too ).I can get a really good vape , flavour , throat hit and vapour production with my PT2's and MPT2's. I haven't seen or found a good video or tutorial on recoiling dual coils for the likes of the Protank 3 range , I think It's because of either A) getting the spacing between the coils , or B) using a single coil and packing out the top of the coil with wicking material.
The device the dripper was on is a MVP V2 and I normally vape at between 6 and 9 watts.
