New laptop arrived today - Windows 8 is going to take some getting used to, but the lappy itself is fab Is that offer still on? I'm dithering here with my job up in the air, do I commit to (actually not) a lot of money for a new laptop now, or wait until things are a bit more stable, bearing in mind that the machine I am typing this on is a) crap and b) going back - if they remember and really want such a duff computer back under council ownership; I suspect that if I don't say anything, nothing will be said!

I never really liked win 7 myself win 8 works with apps so everything is where you would expect it to be and it boots up really fast and if it only has win 8 on it update it straight away it is free to 8.1 then you can use it so it looks like a XP machine that is how I use it it is so easy Crisis here! Playing happily with my new laptop and Windows 8+1,then shut down at teatime. Now Microsoft has blocked me because it says my password/e mail addy don't match,I know they do I carefully made notes of everything I was doing,it really isn't my memory because I was very very careful about choosing a new password and made note of it as I did it. I do love Windows 8+1 though.

as chrissie said sometimes on startup caps lock will be on/off check that first I typed it exactly right. The thing is ms would not accept my current e mail address saying it was already in use? so I canput an old bt address,of course I cannot remember the password so I put in one that I wanted, whether this has anything to do with it I don't know? I am in the process of going through the password reset system.

Phoenix . I don't like IE either, so I downloaded Mozilla Firefox straight away. Be careful were you download it from as there is a false download page kicking about. CNET downloads are safe, so download it from there (Click on the green download below the firefox symbol) - download.cnet.com/mozilla-firefox/

Phoenix . your bookmarks are connected to your browser, so don't really have anything to do with Windows 8. If you can still use your old PC/laptop, you can export your bookmarks (via a disk or flash drive) & then import them to the bookmarks on your new laptop. Just a thought, but I think it would help you (& maybe others) more if you started a new thread asking for help with Windows 8.1 - lol it might even help me as it's as new to me as it is to you Got to admit though, that I'm starting to actually like it

I was thinking the same Chrissie,a separate thread for with Windows 8+1. The problem isn't with saving bookmarks, I have got them all ,I am using google chrome and there used to be a star next to the 'bookmark this site', press that then a list appears of all the saved site's. It isn't there now,so it's a google chrome problem? Just been reading all the 'how to' pages and it was like OMG,I will never get the hang of it all. ,
