Malwarebytes can be a bit sneaky with the wording when installing. Try uninstall and re-installing, paying close attention to the options. Here are some other programs you could try if you want to. CCleaner --- great for cleaning junk files, uninstalling other programs and annoying toolbars, enabling/disabling startup programs. CCleanerSpyBot S&D --- same as malwarebytes, just not as fast. It does have a nice feature where you can immunize your browser from malware/spyware. Spybot S&DHitmanPro --- again, same type of malware remover, quite powerful. It's a 30 day trial but good if you just want to use it once or twice to remove some nasties. HitmanProGhostery --- a browser addon that prevents redirects, trackers, beacons, popups etc. I find it invaluable and is easy to enable/disable as you see fit. GhosteryAVG --- free antivirus. AVGAvast --- free antivirus. AvastWhen installing anything, always keep a close watch at every stage. Even reputable companies will try and slip a sponsored toolbar or browser offer that are easy to overlook and require you to uncheck the boxes to opt out. I remember a couple of years ago, my wife's pc ground to a halt. She had 11 different versions of the Yahoo toolbar

Thanks. According to my Microsoft Essential Security I have 9 drivers missing and some updates that are required, methinks this is going to cost me money getting it all sorted as it is too hard for me. Adverts are not happening now, perhaps AVG has done some good?

Downloaded AVG for now, but they said I have driver and security problems and pointed me to a USA phone number? Wow, I knew AVG was bad but to include malware installers is totally..... well malware. AVG has nowt to do with drivers.

Just had a company to check my Desktop, having problems with that too, it will cost £84.99 for doing the Thermal paste on the CPU, clean out the insides and virus removal? Told him to leave it and i will collect it, said it will cost me £39.99 for the diagnostic check?

Do I need to uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials before installing Malwarebyte?

MSE ain't worth squat Phoenix ., misses so much stuff it's not really worth it, so get rid. Go ahead with just Malwarebytes you'll be fine. If you feel safer running AV software that automatically monitors stuff then install either Avast 2014 (Free) or Avira Antivirus (again Free) after letting Malwarebytes do it's thing. Definitely not good to have two AV programs running, so another reason to ditch MSE.

Have successfully downloaded FreeAvast , so will see if that changes anything. No luck with Malwarebytes though, just says my Free trial has expired, no option to opt for the free one permanently.

My laptop has packed in ,the hard drive light not lit and cannot get online. My desktop would not even boot up after gettin it back from the workshop! I am therefore considering buying a new laptop. Do not play games (only scrabble) , surfing shopping googling ,the usual stuff. Anyone got any suggestions? I would prefer not to have Windows 8/8+. All the ones I have looked at have these could I get Windows 7 put on a new laptop? Sent from my kindle,my new best friend.

you can use a usb mouse with them. personally I'd go for a laptop for the extra hard drive space, 16 gig is nothing and will soon fill up.

Thanks for that Chrissie, it is certainly in my price range and seems to have the specs I am looking for, still a bit wary of Windows 8-1 read bad reports about it, but if it can be changed to look like Windows 7 then I think I will cope with the changes, I'm always up for learning new technology albeit not very successfully.
