I'm a member of A.A. and I'm helping a young lad recover from alcoholism; he's 25 years old, suffers badly with depression and has just celebrated his one-month clean 'n' sober date.
He's a good kid, he has a heart, and he's learning how to live without drinking and drugging; he just wants a 'normal life', and to help others.
He's currently living in a dry house; and has next to no money; and I'm pretty skint too, otherwise I'd just buy him an e-cig; but he's interested in kicking the smoking too, and wants an e-cig, but lack of funds is holding him back from trying it out.
Now, if anyone has an old e-cig kit, one they don't use, would it be possible for you to donate it to this guy?
This may sound 'dodgy', but I promise you it's not for my use; it's for his; (I use a screwdriver; and I'm perfectly happy with it), but if anyone has any old kit they don't use, the donation would be put to good use.
I'll quite happily stump up for the postage, if I can pay by paypal.
Thanks.

would your friend not be better off trying NRT which he could get free from the NHS ? Vaping has an on going cost associated to it as you know with juice and atomisers

I'm sure someone would be willing to help your friend, however, I'm with Gordy..there's still an ongoing cost of vaping as with analogs.

I'm guessing it's just set up costs he would find difficult?

I gave this a lot of thought last night. Some AA members who really "get it" do succeed in giving up everything in the early days, but it could cause a lot of dangerous stress ??? Tosh's friend should have just one priority, but having to live in a no-smoking house is stressful for us smokers You're quite right about the ongoing cost, Gordy and Hiss, but if someone by some miracle had a Screwdriver, or maybe a box mod, they were willing to part with for free, ongoing cost wouldn't be astronomical. But thinking about it, a kit that someone doesn't want any more is likely to be one that doesn't perform well, and that would be counter-productive I don't have any spare hardware (had to place an SOS order with Jason this morning as LavaTube won't be here until next week some time) See how things go, Tosh, and if a bottle of juice is required at a later stage, PM me. (~Must add, not if it's urgently req'd, cos I'd be getting it posted by proxy )

Happy to make a contribution if it's needed....
He's clearly going through some tough times and encouragement is so important.

Hey, thanks for the offers, and thanks to the kind member here whose sorting out my friend with a brand new e-cig kit; there's some kind members here. Thank you. He will be grateful.
And Scylla is correct, increased stress levels for newly sober alkies aren't good, but I think he's hit a 'rock bottom' with his smoking and he's had quite a few drags on my screwdriver and he reckons it's hit the spot for him. But to be honest, when I switched from smoking to e-cigs, it was quite an easy transition for me; so maybe it'll be the same for him.
I'd've stumped up for him, but things are tight my end, and I have a family; so really, thank you.
He really is a good kid; he's a 'wild one', he's been in all sorts of trouble, but when he's sober - which he is and he's going to any lengths to remain so, he's just nice lad. I was at a meeting with him this evening and he really is doing great. It's amazing to watch people change; I love A.A. it's an amazing organisation, IMO.
And it's good to see that some folk can understand that alcoholism is an illness (a mental illness) and not just a moral failing.
Thank you so much.
Kind regards,
Tosh

Sounds good, Tosh. If your friend finds cartos/clearos he likes it shouldn't be too expensive to make vaping a beloved hobby for him. Should keep him busy and out of mischief
