Saw one of enjay `s pics with a twisted coil a week or so ago and fancied having a go. about my 4th set up on the Erl in the hunt for the best vape and I think this is the one. .25 kanthal 9 or 10 wraps (lost count) came out at 1ohm . I did a 1ohm standard micro before and it was a touch harsh but the twisted isnt . Can`t believe how smooth it is to be honest Cheers for the inspiration enjay

Think I might have a crack at one of these. Ive always avoided going below 1.8 ohms as I always find the vape a bit harsh, but if this smooths it out then i think I'll have a go.

Twisted is the way forward! I think the extra surface area gives that lovely vape. I've just twisted a full 25 metre spool of .2 , because I got sick of twisting every time I coiled. I use it in everything from 1ohm protanks to .5 ohm 3D.

I've been twisting 0.27 and it's good, a little tricky with small screws on Kayfuns one strand wants to pop out unless you loop it round. I think you also get more vapour from between the coils on micro coils than from round kanthal. Not as good as ribbon on steel rope wicks.

seniorphil I take it you mean twist a whole coils worth rather than 1 x 25 m bit in a one go, I do it in about 6-7 m (pre tw len) one end in a vice the other looped on a Ti tent peg in a drill and that's a bit of a pain to avoid kinks before you are ready to start twisting.

I did 5m at a time with it wrapped around a spanner in a vice and an electric drill. If you keep the tension up I think you could do more. I'm a notorious tight-arse, and I'd be mortified if I had kinks I couldn't use. Who knows? someone is now gonna want them kinks I avoided. A triple twisted(with kinks), double coil with rayon maybe autumns big thing.

The other thing I find is (I put a lot of tension on when twisting) is that I have to do quite a lot of reverse cycles before releasing the tension or it just kinks. I find it easy to stick the ends in the vice and put a hook ( Ti tent peg) in the drill with the middle looped over that.

Torch it(you'll see it slacken then tighten) while it's in tension VapingBad, Thankfully I may never have to twist another wire......until the next one.

I'm trying to cut down on torching seniorphil, I wipe the kanthal down with IPA before twisting and just pulse when I install the coil, again I put as much tension on it when I wrap the coil. Anyway I would need arms twice as long to torch 2-3 m while holding the tension at one end, I could connect the vice and tent peg to the mains to pulse it .

I delegate, Hackspace has 1000 members, do something odd and some of them gather, give them jobs.
