If you are doing it at Hackspace seniorphil you should make a rope twisting tool, the local scout troop made a hand held one out of ply, I have seen the one in this pic working.

You can get a dozen people working in unison without them having military backgrounds, it just takes shouting and kicking.

Saw one of enjay `s pics with a twisted coil a week or so ago and fancied having a go. about my 4th set up on the Erl in the hunt for the best vape and I think this is the one. .25 kanthal 9 or 10 wraps (lost count) came out at 1ohm . I did a 1ohm standard micro before and it was a touch harsh but the twisted isnt . Can`t believe how smooth it is to be honest Cheers for the inspiration enjay Nice job! That looks really tidy man

enjayPretty coil indeed. Do you think that a loosely twisted weave like the PIC here is better than a tight one. More surface area I'd guess? And maybe some capillary action going on too like as rope between the twists? Twisted makes for such a sturdy coil, Ruffie

Ok so I've been reading all these twisted kanthal threads with interest as I'm a big flavour chaser.
So using what I've got 28awg ( 0.32mm ? I can't remember) I spun myself around a foot of the stuff ( Alan key , drill) very simple to do.
Coiled the kayfun , 0.8 ohms , bit of a PITA to get around the screw heads but because due to the twisted nature of the kanthal it can handle some man handling with a pair of tweezers. A jap cotton wick, job done.
Fired up nice a even and no delay in coils getting bright hot, something I've read can be an issue .
So what do I think of the quality of the vape?
Intense flavour , almost rda saturated type of flavour . I'm surprised as I thought it was just hype but it actually works. Normal single low ohms on the kayfun can taste a bit harsh but I think twisted coils are bloody awesome .
I have no photos lol

Good in it !!! All those with no access to a drill or canny be arsed getting it out. get a vice. a baby vice from your local hobby, $ store. or get other half to hold pliers (mole grips to save having to hold them shut even) get some 0.2mm kanthal about double the length you would use for a normal coil. form into a loop and put open ends in mole grips.
Bang a nail or picture hook tack into the end of a wooden instrument (hammer, mallet, screwdriver, "something cylindrical") curl the end of said nail into a small hook. Put loop on hook and apply tension. Roll said cylindrical object between yer hands to twist wire.. et voilla required amount of twisted wire + - an inch or so.
Or. same idea. use a crotchet hook with a wide handle. OR a bit slower but you will still get there. same loop of wire, insert screwdriver through loop, pull taught n twist. It's only about 20 / 30 twists and no need to really get out a big hunking drill.
Funnily enough, one of my silver ring designs uses the same technique (which i didn't invent but came up with myself) to twist 1.2mm 925 silver wire. that used my mallet and a pin bashed in the end.
Ruffie.

Thanks for this thread, gave me the inspiration to look at some you tube videos and after seeing how easy it was I decided to give it a try. so I did my first twisted coil using a pen top and pliers using the rolling on thigh technique. . Work like a charm, 5 wraps of 30 AWG came out at .9. Happy days.

Gave all my pro tanks away last year , but I reckon it would be a nightmare trying to put a twisted coil in the pro tanks .

Here's my build on Russian , just be careful around the screws . The twisted kanthal I'm using 28awg is thick and you don't want excess bulge from wires around the screws making contact with chimney . I've shown this in my photo. But it's a rocking vape .
