You know how people say "less is more" when it comes to cotton... It's not necessarily helpful. If you have too thin a wick, the cotton won't touch the side (continuous) of the coil. This leaves a horrible taste (sometimes metallic). Then you have the scenario where the cotton is too dense in the well and it won't wick properly (dry hit time). When folks stay "less is more" what they really mean is less density is more... BUT if you have much too little the coil ends up with hot areas where the wick isn't touching.... Aghhh!!!! Something akin to this is happening to you, I fear. Air flow screw... funny you say that... after a perfect seven months with my genuine KFL+, over the last month the bloody things been weeping.... Tom, I'd almost class myself as an Intermediate / Advanced used now so Why The heck have I lost the ability to coil and wick a protank lol. I don't wish to hijack thread. but. WIth Protanks. Do you all have your coil right at the bottom of the slots in the head. OR do you leave the base on so the coil sits about half way up the chimney of the head? I rebuilt mine off the base and i think the coil is far too low down. ????? Ruffie.

I feel your pain! Seriously! The kayfun nearly had me in tears of frustration. Then I tried a taifun and my life was complete! So complete I have 6 of them! Easier to refill I've found. Makes all the difference TO ME! I'd try one .... go on, go on, go on! I've had no dry hits, no gurgles and certainly no leaks! I'm a taifun lover, not a kayfun fighter

I went with option a) Mrsmac. I'm content with my Nautilus Minis and the BVC coils which I recoil using the Vape N Quit tool. I don't get the seepage onto the 510 pin that I got with Kanger tanks. Rebuidables are just a step too far on the faffometer for me.

you guys really have cheered up a frustrated bunny and I'm loving the various responses. I fear trying a taifun @spikeyfridge and Geordie because if I like it my obsession with flush fit would have me looking at new mods and my need to hoard would mean I would need at least 3! Do you know it took me nearly an hour to get back on the forum today, we are busy!

The only reason I gave up with my taifun GT clone was due to a fault (sure someone could have fixed it). It was like most hardware (bar drip tips) I get from FT = dead on arrival I've been on davide megas for yonks. First wee while (At least 2 weeks) - nightmare. Till I got it right. Now on hcigar taifun gs clone - tickety boo once I did the wick flow tubes Micro coiling was the scariest yet easiest bit out of it all though with my bead awls from ebay (crisis when you lose too many of those LOL)

Edit to add, I think I may have this wick just about right after taking it apart again and teasing small strands of cotton out. I think next time I wick I shall cut a fresh pad and if it works out cut several strips the same for future reference! Oh and maybe buy a taifun as it does look like a protank on steroids!

I hope you crack that damn kayfun soon I just found life too short to try to figure out what I was doing wrong and despite the helpful advice and tips, I was ready to hit someone! Yes, it really was that bad! Good luck with it!

stuish thank you for the offer of a swap but I want to try and figure the bugger out. It has to be my wicking technique as everyone that I have read using japenese cotton gets on with it well and when I get it working it is excellent, it's just hard to replicate! That is an excellent video that I saw some time ago and was using that method but I find because cutting japenese cotton gives a blunt edge on the cotton, it doesn't work so well @spikeyfridge, I am just not ready to be beaten yet is there a UK vendor that does a good taifun

Mrsmac if you have a brimal or a thin drill bit with the juice channle try and keep it the same size just make it slightly deeper and cleen the corner out i found that it lets the juice through nicely and you get a good taste and no dry runs

ruffdog From memory it was part way up. But it's a very long time ago and like you, I went through stages where I just couldn't do a thing right. Today is one of those KF days... Three attempts before I was happy... Desperately need ptfe tape (somewhere in the garage). However, today I've mainly been sniffling and breaking magnets (but have discovered that my spare Nemesis magnets can salvage my Atomo 2). And I'm considering trying my Taifun of great leakiness again (someone mentioned Rico Wool and 3mm so that, plus the o'rings I replaced last time might just do it). Right now, though, I'm going to finish watching S01E03 of Penny Dreadful. Oh the decadence! Never give up! (apart from the obvious)
