So today I had my first proper go at building coils using twisted wire. I used 3 strands of 28g (0.30mm) a1 kanthal and twisted them together with a drill, then wrapped it around a 14g needle. I've not wicked it yet but after pulsing and pinching a few times it glows from the middle out and comes out at 0.76 ohms. If I do say so myself i'm very pleased at this first attempt.

Nicely done I have started using twisted coils in the kayfun and the rose now. When I get my magma I'm gonna drop a 3 strand 0.25 mm on a 2.5 mm bit see how that works.

it glows from the middle out and comes out at 0.76 ohms. Please enlighten my ignorance. What is the advantage of a twisted coil apart from shortening the battery life? ???

More surface area boosts the flavour production in comparison to a single strand or round wire at the same overall resistance YMMV.

Yup, VapingBad has it spot on. The twisted wire means you can have more wraps per coil while maintaining the same resistance. This means the coil covers more wick and thus can vaporize more juice. I should also add that a well made twisted wire coil should heat up faster than an equivalent build using a single length of thicker wire.

Thank you, I should have thought about the surface area.

Another huge benefit to twisted coils is how tough they are . You can be fairly rough changing wicks and they don`t bend out of shape easily .

Impressive a three strander as your first. double twisted 0.2mm on everything here.

I don't get this, according to the coil calculator I have, nine turns of triple twist @ .32 over a 14g needle (1.2mm) = around .3 ohms. I tried it myself with pretty much the same result, the coil metered at .3 ohms. However nine turns of triple twist @ .23 over a 14g needle (1.2mm) = around .7 ohms, which is close enough to the op's result.

Give me a little time please, only just learned how to make a single strand coil + wicking! I've no doubt now the multi are superior.

They're not superior jevans. It's all in their heads. Most people use twisted wire to save having too many types. In my case, to use up loads of .2 kanthal I bought ages ago.
