Hi, Just joined this forum after reading about it on MSE I've been looking to give up smoking after 40ish years and for the last few weeks have been looking online for the best e-cigarette to suit me. I have never seen such a plethera of things to buy and I am now completely bamboozled by it all!!! I am a 20ish a day smoker and have been smoking medium strength cigarettes for about the last 20 years. HELP PLEASE I really need to stop.

Hi Jig,welcome to the forum.Highly recommended for beginners are the Ego/River/tornado which are basically the same. They usually come with a few prefilled cartridges so it would be best to buy some juice as well.I am sure someone will be along very soon to advise on the best buy at the moment. My advice would be not to worry too much about all the other things that are talked about for the moment, just concentrate on the Ecig and juice as thats all you ned to get started. Netty xx

Hello & Welcome! The standard starter kit recommendation to you would be a Riva Kit, some cartomisers and some Juice that you fancy, all can be got from vape-escape for less than what you spend on cigarettes in a week. Probably you will need high strength (24mg) liquid to start with. Once a carto runs dry just pop another one in, then you're good to go. Use 1 battery whilst you have the other on charge, when the battery runs out just swap over, though you should get at least 7 or 8 hours out of a battery, maybe more. then you can try other flavours/strengths. Above all ask questions, no matter how trivial, someone here will help you. Riva link www.vapeescape.co.uk/the-riva-110....eginners%5D~151Cartomiser link www.vapeescape.co.uk/kanger-510-l....oil-%285%29~225And i'd recommend a drip tip cos it feels better in your mouth than a blunt cartomiser www.vapeescape.co.uk/transparent-coloured-drip-tips-%28510%2F901%29~142Use the discount code "MC15" to get 15% off of your order. Others will also be along with their suggestions. Whatever you do, keep asking questions here no matter how trivial, no one will thinks they are silly and you'll get a fast reply. Good luck!

I am just over a month with no cigarettes and totally agree with getting the Riva kit. I smoked for 29 years and ive found the switch pretty easy, no cravings nothing!
Good luck!

Thanks for that Des, However I am still unsure about the difference between a cartomiser and an atomiser. How do I fill either of these things with e-juice, and when the e-juice is 18mgs, --18mgs of what? Sorry to be so dense Wendy

Wendy, you aren't being dense at all A cartomiser is a cartridge with a built in atomiser. They are meant to be disposable but can be refilled with juice several times over before performance drops off. They are pretty cheap so if you get a week out of one they are good value for money. Atomisers are more expensive & meant to last far longer (but sometimes they don't). you use them with a separate cartridge. Have a read of this thread & it well help you understand some of the basic parts & some video's & pics showing you how to refill cartridges & cartomisers - allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=newmembers&thread=2349&page=1#74660

Sorry to be so dense Wendy OK, a cartomiser is a coil wrapped in absorbent wadding, you fill it by popping the end off of the cartomiser and dripping a few drops of e-liquid on to the absorbent wadding. A atomiser and cartridge has the wadding seperate from the coil and relies on the wadding pressing up against the coil to "wick" liquid on to the coil, generally they hold less liquid so need topping up more often and can be prone to wicking problems, they are a bit old hat now and are only used by people that like to "drip" - don't worry about this at the moment! In my opinion a cartomiser is a lot less "faff". Look on youtube for videos for filling cartomisers have a look at this one there are loads on youtube. **EDIT** found better video
