Today I recoiled and filled my kayfun lite clone and it hasn't leaked all day after I found a spare oring to put on the bottom of the chimney cap. However, I did find it a real PITA to get the coil legs to stay under the screws. I would get one screwed down and when I moved the coil slightly to put the scond around the first would pop off. Is there a knack to getting the screws down on the coil legs? I tried today with thicker wire 28g, as opposed to 32g that I tried yesterday but both were a struggle. I am probably missing something obvious, so any tips would be great.

reddragon the clones come with really crappy screws. They are slightly roundish at the bottom and have a really small flat section to get the wire under. see the kfl bit in my signature. its really worth getting a pack of £2 screws that will last you forever. in the meantime, wrap the coil legs around the screw once

It's a knack - and it does depend on the wire you're using, and the shape of the screw. A lot of the cheap clones have screws with rounded heads, and they make it very difficult! If you are having trouble, wrap the wire all the way found the screw - 360 degrees - and pull tight before tightening. It increases the resistance slightly, but only by 0.1 ohm or so.
I keep a mini screwdriver through the coil as it makes it easier to hold, and I undo the screws just enough for the wire.
After a few recoils it becomes second nature, so persevere!

Hi , Ive been coiling these for months and months and still find this bit a pain in the butt I try to unscrew the deck coiling screws as much as possible and use the small screwdriver to fold down the wire around the screw them pull it around with my fingers , seems to stay put that way.

If you have it on a stand or a stable mod you can try (v fiddly) to push the wire tight against the screw while tightening the screw, it is very fiddly. If the underside of the coil screw heads are not flat it maybe worth get some new ones off ebay IIRC M1.6 x 3mm Tom measured them recently so tagging him fro confirmation. Another fiddly way is to loop the wire fully around the screw. I bet someone else knows a better way though. E: never asking me for fast typing tips as there were no replies when I started lol

Thanks Tom and ionian I didn't have my specs on so that didn't help but I thought the bottom of the screw head looked rounded and the wire was kinda rolling off when I tightened it. I will get some better screws cos otherwise it will drive me doolally. I did have the screwdriver still through the coil. I am sure it will get easier. I am just made up that I stopped the leaking, next step master the set up
