Hi peeps, I use a unicoil in a pro tank 2 & mini pro 3, which I vape at 9watts in my mvp with the same tanks & coils I can't vape much above 5.5/6.0 watts without getting burnt hits, I know the istick hits harder but this seems quite a difference to me, any ideas?, could I be using to much cotton or something.

Could be istick has a different way of showing voltage. don't try to work with the figures just back off the wattage when you start to get burnt taste

The numbers, on the Istick, mean little or nothing. Its a nice small device with good battery life, but the board in it is rubbish. I tried it out for a few days, and rarely used it above 8 watts. It's very good for highish ohms.

I been having same problem last couple days no idea why. Only happens with shop bought juice. Homemade is no problem. Very odd.

Isn't it because the iStick has Mean not RMS function . . . that's my understanding to account for the difference wil7985. Generally I use between 8-9 watts, but with the iSticks on a fresh coil it's more like 5.5 watts I start at. If it's a satisfying vape on the lower settings, then it doesn't matter really what the numbers say to me.

IStick uses PVM rather than RMS, this means the the voltage output rather than being the rms value is a switching on off cycle which at the peak of its on period has a voltage applied approx 30% greater than the RMS value. Or something like that Roughly speaking and as perps suggests 5w PVM is around 8.5w RMS, most other mods work on RMS.

Never use mine above 3.1v /4.8 w with a 1.8 coil ( that reads as 2ohm ! Doesn't matter what it says as long it tasted good. ! And it does ! Not used any other mod since I got it All gathering dust along with my batteries and charger !!

Mean and RMS are two different ways of working out an average of the PWM output, mean doesn't take into account the heat you coil retains between the pulses. As the setting gets higher the gap between the pulses gets smaller and so mean and RMS are closer at high settings. This is a quick graph I did, it is not iStick specific and it's voltage not watts, because the resistance comes into play with watts. The horizontal axis is the % of time the pulse is on, you don't need to understand that just that it goes from low to high. Don't try and read too much into it other than they are different ways of measuring the same thing and low settings are more inaccurate than high settings.

VapingBad thank you for that excellent explanation. I only got iSticks yesterday and my head is spinning from reading all the comments about them. Now I understand why they give the power they do. However what I can't understand is why the flavour & vapour is so much better than my other devices when I up the voltage on them to what I think the iStick is putting out. Still I don't have to understand it to enjoy it. djs You lead. I'll follow. I read your vape-sperience post and wondered what you had been drinking. It's the biggest improvement in my vaping journey.

Question, got my istick from cloud9 (and it's a wee bobby dazzler, my poor old ego that was previously used at work is now in the doldrums). Is the FastTech one a genuine istick or a crone?
