Hmm. It's hard to work out what I save or not because I used to roll my own which was a ton cheaper. Now I also make my own liquids and burn through them at different rates depending on what I feel like vaping so I'm not sure really. I reckon I'm using about £10 a month on vaping though. For the cost of the nicotine and vg to mix it into. That's after the start up costs though and I use CE2s to vape with which, if you're kind to them, will last well over a month each. So I get about 5 - 8 months out of 5 CE2s which only sets me back around £7. So total of around £11 a month for me? I don't think rolling my own was too much more expensive than that either though, but vaping is sure as anything better for me

Brilliant! I love this forum already!! I can't even reply to everyone fully as there's so much Leftfield thanks for explaining how they work, i definitely want a cartomiser then. Thank you Des for the money breakdown, yes it is a LOT cheaper than i had thought, so excellent and all the more reason to do this. Anne that's good to know as I'm also unemployed at the min and a single parent and moving house soon! (hopefully) I'd quite like to kick the fags before the new house so it has no association with smoking for me, a real fresh start. Chrissie I'm off to check out your links now, thank you for that, it would have taken me days (actually it already has, but i got nowhere - silly me for being so slow to discover this forum). Am i right in saying the Riva 510 doesn't use a cartomiser or are there different types? I can imagine me getting the buy shiny things bug

You are right that most Riva 510 kits don't come with Cartomisers - instead they come with a couple of atomisers & cartridges. However, you can use any 510 cartomisers with the Riva 510. Lol, I've most likely explained that so badly cos I'm half asleep

A riva can use a cartomiser. You want what's called a 510 cartomiser. There are different ohm ratings on them (resistances) but typically for a riva you'll want anywhere between 2.5ohms to 2.0ohms. 2.5ohms will be nice and warm but 2.0ohms will be much more pronounced with more vapour and heat. You can get cartomisers here: www.vapeescape.co.uk/search.asp?types=Vaping+Spares+%3E+Cartomisers that will work with your riva, or any other site selling 510 cartomisers. You're really not stuck with what comes with your kit almost anything that will fit a 510 thread will work with your riva! Yes, sorry for rambling away with abbreviations There are two main types of liquid in the ecig world: vg and pg. vg is thicker, sweeter, produces more vapour but isn't as strong on your throat. pg is thinner, gives a better hit on your throat but produces less vapour. I'm allergic to pg so I have to use vg liquids. A CE2 is one of these: freedomvape.co.uk/shop/article_1049/XL-Ultimate-Clearomizers.html?shop_param=cid%3D7%26aid%3D1049%26I wouldn't really recommend you get one straight away. They're similar to cartomisers but they're clear. They don't work straight away which is why I don't recommend them straight away. You need to fiddle about with them for them to work properly. It's quite easy to do, but maybe not if you're completely new to ecigs.

New house, new start - an EXCELLENT IDEA! Most Riva kits come with atomisers, which is now OLD technology, you'll do much better with cartomisers which will fit the Riva they are alot more reliable for a newbie and a lot less "faff" I suggest you phone one of our wonderfully helpful suppliers, I beleive Jason at Vape Escape has helped many and Steve at Ecigs for you, they'll talk you through your first order. Good luck, and don't forget once you get your kit to keep us updated with your progress. * Two last cautionary notes: Do not let any little ones get hold of E-liquid. Once you start vaping your taste WILL change you may have to try quite a few flavours until you find one you really like.

I have no idea Des, i guess i make fags a priority but we seem okay and the kids don't go without. I have minimal bills though! I'm not looking just now, studying and the toddler take up all the time.
New house is a massive incentive as it's a new build, so never been smoked in before! I get the decision on it in a few days so fingers crossed.

All fingers & paws crossed here for your new house I used to be a very heavy smoker - averaged about 50 a day Can hardly believe how I managed to find the money for them Camber, you are going to find a big difference financially, though maybe not to begin with.

Greetings Cambermam and welcome to the forum (a bit late I know). VG is vegetable glycerine (PG is Propylene Glycol); CE2s are a type of cartomizer. Fox

Hi Camberman & welcome. If you need any advice verbally, you can always give us a call (the number is on the site). Other than that, you have already received lots of excellent advice.

Firstly, what a great board for aspiring vapers and newbies! This thread really should be pinned as it is a minefield like cambermam aptly describes. I have spent the last 4 days trying to understand what this is all about..Most of it on this board and on MSE.
I gave up smoking for over 3 years and started again about 3 months ago and was looking for an alternative as I hate the smell and the hacking cough that goes with conventional smoking and not to mention costs. I was also shocked at the how much the price of ciggies have gone up in the last 3 years!!
I have ordered the above just to try it out. Any vids out there about how to refill the cartomizers that come with the above? The information on the website is sketchy as to how much liquid this holds though I called safecigs and he said it would last about 7 cigs at a time..
More when I start vaping..Can't wait since I have decided to take the plunge..

Hi Maccafan & Welcome I can't look for a filling video at the moment as I'm sposed to be working but I'm sure you'll get a link shortly. So glad you've taken the plunge, PLEASE let us know how you get on when you get your Kr808d-1 and ask away any question you may have. Hopefully you'll use it as a "proof of concept" and then go on to bigger and better things. We'll help you with your next step then. It might be a good idea to cut & paste your post to the new members section where it will be seen easier, rather than at the bottom of an existing post.
