Welcome Maccafan. It all gets less confusing the more you get into vaping rest assured! I vape almost continuously when I can, not so much for the nicotine as I'm using pretty low strengths now . . . I just love the flavours and seeing all the fab vapour.

The only difference between the riva 510 and 901 is the threading. 510 is more standard with 901 being less conventional. Well... I say that but there's almost just as much compatable with 901 these days. You can use 808 cartomisers with the riva and 901 atomisers. You can also use a 901/808 to 510 converter piece to use 510 gear on the 901 riva. A cheaper alternative for you to the riva could be a 5v or 3.7v passthrough. It'll be just one battery but since you are near a power source you could use one of those. For passthroughs there are two types: With an in-line battery or without. You'd probably want the one with a battery in it as then you can use it when it's charged without a power supply whereas the ones without a battery you need constant power sources. You could use a passthrough at the computer/from a wall socket and use the kr808d-1's when you're outside or need hands free vaping. I'm not too sure where the cheapest passthroughs are. I'm chrissie could point you to a really cheap one Thanks for the detailed info.. This is getting more and more like a science lesson..

Yes, I forgot to say, the passthroughs will draw more amps than your conventional motherboard can handle. I had read of some people's motherboards catching fire using them on old computers. Especially if you have the old usb 1.0, your computer just wouldn't be able to handle the draw on it. Scary thought You're safer to use a usb charger that plugs into your wall. I do charge my kr808d-1 models on my laptop though without it catching on fire so far

Hi all - Ive lost track of the new members on this thread so welcome to you all!
Just to add a point about how long X mAh actually lasts. Now I only understand really basic electrical theory and the reality is more complicated I know (batteries behave differently under load, there are other resistances in the circuit etc.), but here are some simple calculations - somebody will soon correct me if I have this wrong!
Assume your battery is delivering 4 volts and your cartomiser is 3 ohms. When you activate it you are drawing 1.33 amps, or 1333 milliamps. So if you had a 100mAh battery that would give you 4.5 minutes of puffing. If you fire up the battery for 5 seconds each puff, that is 54 puffs. Now how many fags that is equivalent to is hard to say - at a guess at most 4 or 5. So for the equivalent of 20 cigs a day you are going to need at least 400/500 mAh. In practice I would guess even more. Plus, as a typical e-cig battery discharges it goes downhill very rapidly as you get near to its capacity and it is best to re-charge them before they run down completely. Based on my experience and what I have read of others' 600 - 700 mAh would be the minimum I would want to depend on for a day's vaping and personally I would go for at least a 900mAh battery for continuous use (bearing in mind that battery ratings usually err on the optimistic side!). If you use 2 ohm cartomisers the battery life gets much worse!
Hopefully this shows why the 100mAh per hour of vaping rule of thumb is not going to be far out and why people on here always suggest large capacity batteries to newcomers to vaping.

Thanks for the calcs.. Ohms law does not apply to batteries and rate of discharge but I suspect you are not far off from what I have read into other's experience... What's a RIVA 650? www.ecigsforyou.co.uk/ego-650-starter-kit

the 650 refers to the mah , and should last around about 6 - 8 hours depending on how heavy you vape , I usually carry 3 or 4 900mah batteries with carts using different flavours with me for a day

As Storm says, the 650 refers to the mAh - that Riva, like the majority of them, is a 510 fitting so compatible with 510 cartomisers etc. If buying from ecigsforyou, use discount code allabout for 10% off.

Thanks for clarifying that..I received my KR808d-1 starter kit this morning and have posted a mini-review. I am going to try a few different flavours of e-liquid and then decide if I want to go for a more long lasting piece of kit. Anyone tried this shop..It seems to stock a lot of flavours compared to the other websites. www.oksmokey.com/I am gonna try the RY4 first as many seem to think that this is a magic flavour..

As I understand it, mainly depends on the resistance of your cartomizer/atomizer/clearomizer and obviously how much you vape and how deeply you draw. No substitute for experience I guess but 650mah should give you a decent battery life.
Just do not deep discharge Li-Ion batteries. Keep them topped up wherever and whenever you can and they will last longer.
