What soldering iron do you have Steve (VapeStorm)? It may not be powerful enough, or it may be an oxidise tip like jcol said but you said you tinned it so probably not, does the solder stay on the tip or want to form a ball and drop off. Also if you get silicon insulated wire you won't melt the insulation, I got some from component store on eBay the do packs of 1 m in both red and black. Try and tin both sides of the joint first

Solder is this linkThat's the easier led based solder, if you only have a lower power iron big bit's like battery connections are difficult and sometime impossible. You could get one of these, these or these, just for the bigger jobs, they are cheapest I can see looking for about 10 mins, the chisel tip ones are probably best.

Yes, you wont melt the insulation on that unless you use your light sabre.

Steve (VapeStorm) I not done one of these, but they use more power (get hotter) if the voltages to the various pins are not in range. There are two main types of MOSFET: positive and negative triggered, IIRC MM onlt sells the neg ones so all the wiring should be on the negative branch. I will have a quick look and see if I can come up with any ideas. Do you have the spec of the MOSFET or a link to the exact one?
