Is there a better way than Paypal. They already charge the vendor and then they rip off the buyer with the exchange rate.

I'd say no there isn't a better way. Paypal is so quick and easy and the deed is done in seconds. There are other ways of course using your card but it's such a long winded pain if you don't have your card stored with the vendor. Paypal all the way I say

I noticed that. At least a couple of quid more by the time you actually pay. But the good part is that you have a degree of protection should things go wrong which is nice to have.

The one thing I like about AliExpress is that you can pay in pounds by credit card, so the price you see is the price you pay with no exchange fees. With other sites like FT and Evkoo, paypal take a bit but not as much as I first thought because when I checked their GBP prices on a google currency converter it always showed the GBP price to be higher than those sites had it listed at so there is a little bit of con going on with their own price converters. The item costs more in GBP than they say it does.
Example
Evkoo istick $29.99. If you click on GBP on their site it will come up at £17.86 but if you go to google currency converter the price will show as £19.19.
Fastech Vamo V6 $26.49, GBP on their site £16.15, google currency converter £16.95.

Paypal use the retail exchange rate...so essentially, once you are talking currency exchange you've had it. It would be no different if you just used your bank card. In fact, it's almost certainly worse... some card issuers chuck on a minimum and make a few pennies on the rate.

I'd rather not give my card details to Chinese vendors. In fact I cancelled genuine Aspire stuff from my FT basket as you couldn't check out with Paypal with those items in your basket.

I don't mind with AE cos the vendor doesn't actually get your details they are paid by AE after you confirm receipt of the item.

Yeah they are lol I guess the difference for me is that they hold the payment until the individual sellers complete the contract and then they give them the money but my details are only held by one party and there is a certain amount of buyer protection involved. Just saying this is the one Chinese company that I feel okay doing that with
